Getting the right VSP for the job is what we can consider important to resellers, web hosting providers, eCommerce users, backups, and code developers. YOU want a VPS that is stable and require no added attention. Like a TV or table radio you change the chanel and your favorite station plays, that it, you don't have to go and move the radio just to here music or move the TV to get a better single. It is the same with a good VPS. Once it is built correctly and up and running you can just change away on the remote and the VPS will be there to handle what ever music you want to hear.

I agree! VPS plans should be fully customizable for the end user. It allows the user to build exactly what they want.

I like your idea, and yes the end user should be able to fully customize there packages.

Well it really depends what you mean by "customization"? A lot of web host offer products and services that have some options to customize your order, however, it may vary from web host to web host.

Bottom line because customizing plans can get expensive if you don't pay attention - take your customized plan and compare those specs across the board with other VPS packages from stable providers.

i can't remember the name of the new site but if you know who virpus is they started a new site where you can fully customize your vps details. I looked at there site and it is actually really expensive. You would be better off going to virpus and getting a premade package and upgrading it

I was actually a client of Virpus for a couple of months a couple years ago. The server had frequent downtime. However, the customer service was quite nice for a start-up. A refund for services was provided in full and we parted ways in a friendly way.

They are a discount VPS provider, so some problems were expected. However, I really do hope they are doing better today.

I used to be a loyal Virpus client as well, until I decided to move more into the premium service market. I really can't/don't want to have my sites go down on a constant basis. I just use my dedis to play.

I absolutely agree. Makes me wonder though, as more and more cloud solutions become active and available - what will be the effect on these? Something to think about.

A real cloud would be more expensive than normal VPS, due to highend central storage. I don't mention to low-end cloud, that is running 1 SAN with 8 SATA HDD.

Then, not all usage needs cloud. Normal VPS is still very good, I doubt cloud will hurt vps soon.

So far, there are 2 providers that work to my needs and are like an extra PC:
VMStormVPS (VMWare, might set time, and it all that requires you to have a REAL server)
UptimeVPS (need to say I paid by SMS, Paygol): but has many limits imposed by OpenVZ, such as you cannot set language, and/or time, or some iptables modules, or tun/tap.
But as an extra PC it does it job. Programs I use: NX, KDE, Webmin and Kloxo.
