Hi Guys,

I a looking to expand and wanted to know if vps services or dedicated services are easier to resell. I will mainly be in the budget area for shared and resellers hosting so I wanted to know should I offer VPS or Dedicated. Im not looking to take on both at once but would like to offer one.

Any thoughts?

In budget area, you can ask Burst.net if they have any VPS reseller program. They do have dedicated server reseller program for a long time already.

To OP

Its all depends on sales & marketing skills, however, as per my personal experience VPS services are easier to resell as compared to the dedicated servers.

Dedicated Servers reselling will be little more risk in terms of money if client does not pay on time and such, but with VPS Hosting you can start with minimal costs.

The market is already flooded with BUDGET stuff to start with...
VPS selling is good if your budget doesn't let you take risk of dedicated reselling.
If you have enough budget, go for full-rack colo.

It's almost certainly true that running a full-rack of servers in colo will give the best profit margin, but I certainly wouldn't recommend that as a place to start !!

@OP, I would suggest to start small, build a business and then grow. You'll probably find it easier to resell VPSs at first as people ask fewer questions of a new business over a £10/month VPS than they do about a £200/month server, especially with a new business. As you develop the VPS business you will grow the right skills to move up and set up your own infrastructure, increasing your margins as you go.

As I said, budget is the key.

You might want to ask yourself are you planing to support the clients or just want to resell once and leave the clients with the host? You could work out some affiliate sales deals for VPS and Dedicated servers. Then you could target both and see which one is going to offer you better sales.Yes you will lose month reoccurring sales but you will learn which sales are going to work better for you if you do decide to support your own clients.

Choosing a reseller would depend on the kind of clients you are expecting. As a VPS reseller would usually be cheaper hence you first need to know if your clients would be interested in spending that much money.

For a start you must concentrate on VPS reselling because it is easier and it gives you an experience which will benefit you when you switch to dedicated+VPS reselling.

Burst.net is a good place to start.

If you focus on a hosted solution, for example Word Press hosting this will help you create a niche market. Once your customer needs more resources you can focus on moving from a VPS to a dedicated server.

I also think that you should start with VPS reseller, it is easier to sell.
