Does anyone have a page they put up for newly created shared accounts on their server?
A number of large hosts put pages on their new accounts to let others know the account has just been setup, ie. advertising their hosting company for free.

I would like to do something like this as I think its a great idea and free way of advertising

I have a page for this, but it's in the support area. It isn't likely that hackers can use the welcome information to break into the server - but clients are the only ones who need it.

I really don't like doing this. We offer the support banners as some people call them as an option for the client to put them on their site. We do not force it when the account is created.

Gah. Sorry. I misread the initial post.

We don't have a branded startup page, no. For the business clients (different site), we do offer a branded setup page which includes a startup page which is branded with the basic information for their business (client branded as opposed to branded with our information)...but that's it.

I think its actually a good idea.
It shouldn't be used to really advertise by displaying prices etc. but I think just a page saying a new customer has just signed up with ***** and maybe a little about your company.
I don't think any customers would mind that and its free advertising for the host

On all newly created accounts, a blank page is displayed. We don't advertise for free on newly created accounts - I understand some people would say "Why not? It's a new account and I'm sure the client wouldn't mind." ... well even so, I wouldn't expect that from a company of a stature such as Dell or Compaq, maybe that of Bobs Scratch & Sniff Clinic though.

Obviously there will be many different views on this topic, however that is my personal view on the topic. If I were the client, I would certainly not be pleased if a company did that to my account - as it would show me what the company was really like.

It, however, really depends on the company in question of and their reputation. For example, if Savile Row were to go into the hosting business (they probably wouldn't, however I'm sure that everyone knows the prestige of Savile Row), they certainly wouldn't do something like that.

Many companies do - and I am personally against it due to certain reasons, however each person to their own of course. Some companies do advertise on newly created accounts, while others don't. It simply depends on the company and certain aspects of the company; otherwise, it's really your choice whether you do it or not.

I certainly hope this helps.

This is funny, in the beginning I did that with a page that said customer was still moving in and please be sure to come back and then a text link to my site, well it was kind of feminine with daisies and such. Guys that signed up needless to say couldn't build a page fast enought to replace it. Where as the female clients took time replacing it.
Now I just put up a blank white page saying coming soon. Very generic.

We just use the default H-sphere page that gives the customer a login box to thier control panel.

I use the skeleton page feature in Cpanel, to create a page that looks much like my index page, but says that the domain is hosted or parked with FallCreekTech.com, and the site should be coming soon.

Never had a complaint, and have actually picked up 2 whole customers from it!

Yep we use a customised skeleton 'Welcome' page for the clients, it also confirms to them the account is up and working and their DNS propogation has occured at least as far as them.

We have a customized skeleton page also. The page is used to welcome to the customer to our company and says the site is ready for their use.

We do have a brief list of the features we provide (with links).
