I would not worry about the strain 100 websites places on a web server. Servers can handle a lot. I know it was mentioned 1000 websites on one server, but in actuality you can do 6000 clients on one server if maintained right and still not have it overloaded or oversold. This all depends on the specs of the server also. With 100 websites you actually may want to consider one to two managed VPS's instead of like 10 reseller accounts. I am not exactly sure how technical you are, but VPS servers and dedicated servers you will have to maintain security. This is one of the major problems a lot of people come across when picking up either. With a managed VPS or Dedicated server you will be looking at more money, but security updates and firewalls will be maintained to keep your server as secure as possible.

100 websites is quite a bit, but there are larger reseller accounts out there. You could consider one of those as an option. If you decided to go with a managed VPS expect to spend $50+/Month. If you decide to go with a Managed Dedicated Server expect to spend $230+/Month. Either way good luck.
