I used to be a client of WebEx' remote PC access service that enabled me to access my PC anytime. That is until they decided to double their monthly fee...

The service was primarily used for remote email access. A lot of time I don't work from my office, so I need access to my Outlook. I am wondering whether there is a hosting service that specializes in Microsoft Outlook hosting solution. Knowing how easy it is to lose data due to hardware/software instability, having web-mail access and Outlook interface can provide an extra layer of email/file security. I would have eventually moved ALL email operations to that remote web-based location so no emailing and no information is stored on a local PC.

So does anyone know of any solutions that can help?

Best,

I think you are looking for any Windows hosting that offers Exchange hosting.

I do not think there is such a thing for Outlook hosting since all Outlook is a glorified mail client.

Is this what you mean? Or am I not on the right track here?

There is an Outlook web client that can be used with exchange also. Exchange is real time to so you can access from anywhere so you can updated email and get to the same areas from an Outlook client or a web based Outlook client.

I think it is exchange hosting, but isn't exchange is just a massive product that offers more than just webmail access?

Yeap, I am looking for the same experience as I have now with a desktop Outlook version - only web-based so that I can work with email anywhere.

Art, why not just set outlook to leave messages on the server. That way you can use outlook to download a local copy of your messages and still have an online version that you can access from anywhere.
I think every host or ISP offers an online interface now.

I considered that Mike, but if I download a local copy on a computer I don't own, I will have to make sure to delete the files and POP accounts right after download, and that could provide security breach.

As far as online interface, if you mean those offered by hosting companies (Horde, SquirrelMail, RoundCube) then their UI is not that great, and its a far stretch from Outlook (the one I'm used to).

No such thing as a stupid question. I phrased it wrong I guess.

Exchange is just like an advanced version of imap. You could just find an imap mail host. All mail is stored on the server pretty much, you log into check it from there. You can always set it up so you can remote into your computer also and check your mail web based.

XP Pro
Right click My Computer, click Remote, and enable it.
Go to Windows add remove components,
install IIS and the terminal services client

Quick way to get your home ip, www.whatismyip.com

http://youriphere/tsweb/ and login to your desktop.

It's IE6+ only, needs ActiveX.

There's a lot more to Exchange than just email. Shared tasks, calendaring, and folders. Sounds like the OP is looking for Exchange hosting.

Mail2Web offers such a plan, but as I don't use Exchange I don't really know what it entails. You may want to take a look.

Other than actually using Exchange, I think Scalix is about the only mail system out there that offers anything close to complete Outlook/Exchange compatibility, but I don't know of any Scalix hosts.
