I feel like there should be a central website where everyone can list hosting companies that are run by 14 year olds and younger.
That's abit childish.

Childish, perhaps a little bit but he might not be that off-base. Didn't this forum start a fraud watch board? What's the difference? A person pretending to be a real business when in reality they are not a legal identity could be considered fraud. Plus, since they are not a legit business they won't get complaints sent to the BBB, etc.

I mean, I don't mind when their company goes belly-up when summer is over or they get bored or can't handle it and their customers need a reliable host to go to Either way, anyone (regardless of age) who gives the appearance of but does not actually run a legit business according to the laws of their country/state/etc should be on that list, not just the kiddie hosts!

Couldn't have said it better! I have taken several steps to ensure my business is correctly registered with the state. It is frustrating to see all those other hosts, and then find out many are not businesses, just a domain name! If you can register and pay for a domain, and then buy web hosting, you can run a business. It hurts all of us!

Ahhh yes, but you see, those bad hosts that ruin their reputations with bad service, the hosting industry would be nothing without them. Good hosts like ourselves wouldn't have customers to entice from those other places.

Ya, I agree to TheReason... Well, let's say, if you have a forum, a famous forum hosted by a kid under 14 years old, do you think it's good? They might don't have any experience on handle some error as well...

But in the mean time, I do agree kid under 14 year old to do this business amount their friend or something Since it's their friend or whatever

Any business requires a lot of professional and indepth knowledge. The teens can surely be honest and run a good company but then again they also have to plan for college and such and then there is that sudden change in life that may in the end keep them away from their hosting business. I honestly don't think that younger people should run any business, especially in a web hosting industry due to all the demands and requirements. Being entrepreneurial is a good thing, but there are issues like consistency, education and business responsibility they have to put up with on a daily basis. If they do not cope up with it then eventually it's the customer who is going to suffer.

I actually agree with that, though sudden change dosn't just happen to teens. It's just more likely to happen with them :p

Anywho, great post there!

If your doing that, I don't think they will question you very much or even care where it's being ran from. I know some of the "bigger" host companies owners who started out young and look at them now. I'm not going to say who because I wouldnt want someone to judge them on there age, I want them to judge them on there service.
I agree Kyle. I was wondering how you find out if they are 14 anyhow. And like you said, customers care about satisfaction. It could be a 12 year old monkey, but if it was reasonable and run good, then 99% of the customers would be happy.

They'll find out when the 14-year-old runs into issues they can't handle due to inexperience, and their sites have been in the hands of someone who fraudulently entered into a contract with them... Some people take business laws and ethics seriously, and would probably like to know that they are taking a big risk hosting with a kid at the helm.

As I posted above, I agree that a 14 year old persay should not be running his own hosting company, but I feel like I'm required to step in here. While I don't think it was intended, PlexiHosting, you make it sound like all kids are total idiots that don't know what they're doing. Now, this may be true in many cases, but not all. I am 14, and while I don't know how to run a hosting company (I'm happy with just managing my websites), there are probably teenagers that could run a hosting company better than an adult that knew more or less what they were doing. Basically, don't generalise :p

You must have misread because I didn't generalize at all. By definition (at least by U.S. law) a 14-year-old purporting to run a business and entering into contracts with people while not disclosing they are not actually not legally able to enter into said contract is fraudulent.

Also by definition a 14-year-old "businessperson" exudes inexperience.

Please don't accuse me of generalizing when I am not doing anything of the like. I never implied that kiddie hosts were idiots.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to accuse you, that was just my view on the post. And as for the first bit, it makes sense :p I really am not familar with US law.

But shouldn't kids be having fun, getting drunk with there friends and just generally having a blast.. you'll have all the time in the world to work when your like 20!

Enjoy your childhood you'll regret It when it's gone.
