a decent webhosting company that actually knows php4 and 5 and is FAST? so many fly by night hosters out there that dont seem to know anything when it comes to running a decent php server

We at CMWebHosting currently have a PHP Dev member who is constantly doing PHP Scripts for Clients

We run PHP4 on our 2 servers currently
along with MySQL and everything that is needed by PHP (including IonCube / ImageMagik)

Company reliability is first to check. You can check if they have positive reviews. You can also check the ranking of the best hosting companies in the world from serious portals. In my opinion, the priorities depend on the person. For instance, most newbies to web hosting go by price, however most veterns to web hosting go by reliability.

Fast php4 and 5? What kind of scripts are you running? Sometime the scripts is slow and not the servers

I agree with sudhanuj and xehoster. Make sure the hosting company you choose is reliable. As xehoster mentioned some php scripts need long time to execute due to their structure. Make sure you check it on your local computer and test its speed before testing on the server.
