My client used to always mention about frequent downtimes and the worst is that once they signup they cannot cancel because most of the people out there signup for the $7.50/month plan which is basically on an annual basis...so once they signup it is like a contract for a year

This is a quote from a phone conversation with a support rep at globat:

Quote:

at the most on there at anyone time 800
but most are transfered from that one to others as they build them up
This is only a bit but its the main thing for this topic.
Seems like they are putting a lot on the servers but putting on low resource sites and then moving them on when they are using more resources etc.
I think thats a very bad idea, the DNS will have to be changed to reflect the name server info if the site is moved.

800 seems like a lot to me..

800 accounts is crazy.

Right now I have 78 domains on my box totaling 7.94GB disk space and are using about 500GB bandwidth.

So technically i have the space and bandwidth to slam more accounts on that server, but if I do that system resources would run low.... so not worth the risk.

The only time I would ever put 800 users on one box is if I had the follwing

Dual Intel Pentium 2.8+GHZ Xeons
2GB DDR PC2100+ memory
4x120GB SATA Drives or 4x73GB scsi drives
a Gigabit nic and some seriously bandwidth.
Even then .... if everyone was using MYSQL at the same time...it wouldnt be pretty.
