To be honest you only need uptime really and a proper server. If you do you wouldn't really need support. Everything else is a bonus the question is do you want to pay for that bonus?

Hosting and support go hand-to-hand. If you don't have good support you business will fail. if you don't have the knowledge to run a business you shouldn't. Its that simple. Its very easy to a web hosting company, its hard to maintain it. Especialy if your a 1man or 2man company.
