I may be totally off course here since I know nothing of the basic things for hosting, but I would think, if your electricity would go down, so would the things you were hosting, then what? I wouldn't think most people have backup generators at home?

If you want to make experiments and learn - do what I did. I purchased a 2nd hand compaq for $30, installed it on the network and practically turned into a web hosting server. Yes, it is slow but is perfect for experiments and training.

Not yet. It would be pretty sweet to have one, maybe this is something I can surprise my fiance with when she comes home one day.

Jokes aside, I will be setting up a home server or so. Not for web hosting, but for experiments as well as other unnamed projects/programs.

Since you don't already know the answer to this question, it's probably best that you not maintain the infrastructure yourself. You should either have someone do this for you, get a managed server or reseller hosting.

Or, if you really do want to run the setups yourself I would then suggest that you do so but only run your own sites for a while to make sure you know how to operate everything properly.

It would probably just be easier for you to let another company run the tech side while you focus on the customer side.
