Blogger just deleted my PR-3 blog. I have been building the blog for more than two years and they just deleted it without giving a single warning before. Yes, maybe they did it for some good reason. I posted too many paid reviews on my blogs I guess. But at least they could send me warnings before, so that I could fix it if I happened to violate their terms.

Free hosts don't normally have much time to spend being courteous

Thats why you always go paid i remember ages ago i had a site on a free host and it would take forever to load. Plus the fact it was hardly ever online to load

If you have something that is important to you than you must go with a paid host...Free hosts will only cause you pain, and great annoyance.

I had this type of issue with a paid host once years ago, they didn't stay in business long.

First of all.. when you have something important on your site, you should backup your site always onto your HDD or a USB stick. Then you won't lose your precious info even if your host thinks your site should be deleted.

I'd echo everyone else here - if your data is important, back it up and go with paid hosting.

2 main things to learn from here.

1. if you have any site of value, make sure you control the domain name so that you don't risk losing your hard earned link popularity, and 2. that you keep recent enough backups of your data.

It doesn't mean that action without notice is something that a free hosting provider can or should do on a whim. Even big providers should try to put a human face, and realize that public relations are important. The viral side of free hosting can work both ways.

If your website is important to you and uptime, reliability, and support is critical, using a paid provider is a no-brainer

I have heard about them doing this to others for similar reasons and no, they don't usually send any warning. Free hosts do not care that the site may be composed of what you consider important information. You should always use some method of backup from what I have learned.

Go for paid hosting. It is much more reliable.

Were you using your own domain name? Or just blahblahblah.blogspot.com ?

If you were using a domain name with your blogger account, you could at least move your blog elsewhere (if you kept a local copy of your site). If it was the latter, that definitely sucks.

I've never really used any free hosts in the past. I've tried Yahoo's Geocities wayyy back as well as Freewebs. however, these free hosts (although I would say they are fairly reliable) are also very limited to what you can do.

Free blogs can be excellent and at the same time reliable but if you do plan to monetize your weblog, go with the paid formats since blogger could be famous for getting monetized via the AdSense program.
