Do you use cPanel and Fantastico... or similar autoinstaller library? It is easy to install WP if you have them. Otherwise if you asking how to price such a service it would depend of the average per hour rate for system administration in the area where you live, but you would charge for 15 - 30 minutes, not for 1 hour.

Wordpress installation is very simple. If you want to know the price, $10 is reasonable. The steps to install it are listed on wordpress website.

Setting up WordPress takes less than 15 minutes, so your price should reflect this amount of labor effort.

This seems like a good price. There is certainly a need for such service, as many people using Wordpress have no knowledge of web hosting and installing software.

A plumber doesn't charge for the time it takes to do the job. Given that the nature of his business means he's unlikely to get his 8 hours straight of work done each and every day, the hourly fee will be at such a level as to compensate for the "wasted" time.

Also, when pricing stuff, one shouldn't do it based on what he thinks it's worth, but on what the buyer might think it's worth (taking the competition's pricing into account as well).

The value in installing Wordpress for a customer is not 15 minutes of time, but hours of research and possible repeated failures while trying to do it himself.

I guess really its down to what you think is a fair price, I know once I have the logins I need it will take me less than 5 minutes to complete the job(assuming their server is not overloaded and slow), so to me charging much more would seem unfair, after all happy customers are repeat customers. Perhaps from their view having WP installed for them would be worth $50/$75/more so its down to what you judge to be a price they will accept if you want to push the most profit you can possibly get.

I did once have a potential client reject me to go with someone else who quoted them $50 for the exact same thing, they stated to me they would not use me because they thought for the price I would probably not do a 'good job'.
Clearly they knew very little about whats actually involved and good luck to people who want to charge that much for a tiny effort. I feel I charge a very fair price but maybe I should put it up, I might get more business

With many webhosts (particularly cPanel hosts), you can easily install wordpress with the click of a button

People usually expect to get free installation. It's good for you as hosting provider to provide free installation. there is a lot of tools to automate that.

That or most hosts will offer Fantastico DeLuxe with cPanel which essentially installs WP in just a few clicks. 99% of hosts "should" do this for free.

Weird. I have never charged a client to install WP for them and send details via email.

I guess if I was getting more than 5 requests per month I would consider it, though. Usually, I only have about 2-3 requests per month to install WP for a client, that's not bad at all since it's pretty easy to install WP.
