If you have a virus on your site, that's not necessarily grounds for moving to a dedicated server. Usually that means you have outdated software on your site, or your computer that you have FTP access to the site has an issue.

When you say "virus" was it REALLY a virus, or was it an IFrame Injection? If it's a virus, then you have a big issue on your hands, and your host should be helping you on it. If it was IFrame, your host should nail down what files have the IFrame injection in them and provide you steps to remove it. Injections usually occur due to outdated software, or an insecure connection (server or client).

The next thing you should consider is how big your pocket book is. Deciding between a shared server or a dedicated server is a HUGE decision. Do you really NEED a dedicated server? How much traffic and space are you using monthly? Can you support the $80-$200/month hosting fee for a dedicated server?

Is the sole purpose for going to dedicated because of the virus? What steps were taken to prevent it? How will you be more secure on a dedicated server than on a shared server (or VPS for that matter)?

Unless you (or someone on your team) has experience with dedicated server administration you'd be asking for frustration if you move to your own server (unless you choose a fully managed solution, but that can become quite costly) Your current provider's tech support department might be able to help you address your concerns with their shared hosting.

I'd recommend that you use a reliable shared hosting provider - they will be able to keep your site virus-free. If you are not comfortable cleaning the virus from the website yourself, you should definitely not get a dedicated server (unless its managed, but this tends to be more expensive)

OK, I'm confused again. Yesterday you wrote:

I have just create a new website and want to host it.
Heard about 2 sites so far, anybody could tell me the best company or the best deal about with justhost.com (www.justhost.com) or host1plus.com...
Today you wrote:

What's the domain of the site you are hosting on a shared server now?
When I read your thread yesterday, I thought you had designed a site and were looking for a hosting provider and asked about justhost or host1plus as potential providers. Today it sounds like you have a site and are asking about service with the same two providers. What am I missing here?

Hi,
Dedicated server would be useful, if you are looking for stability & security. If your site is a high traffic site its advisable to host it on Dedicated as Shared Hosting will not be able to handle the load & the hosting provider would be forced to suspend it as it affects the other sites on the same server.

Ok, a dedicated server won't help you if the problem you're having on shared is due to outdated scripts on your site. You'll simply carry them forward to your new provider. Better to investigate the root cause of the problems with your current provider, then proceed from there.

Dedicated servers can handle more cpu/ram ext. to run huge traffic sites.

when you said, "i got virus many times on many website" what sort of virus- trojans/rootkits/iframe attack? Most of the times, worm resides in some of the client side PCs you use for accessing the ftp/control panel accounts of your hosting server. When you type in the username and password for the ftp/control panel account, the worm silently reads the credentials, accesses your ftp account and infects the files in the server. It infects all your websites files. Make sure that you have installed all security updates in your local system(update all antivirus and try also some soft like malwarebytes anti-malware). Also, you must have a strong password with special characters, letters, and numbers (at least 12 characters). Only temporarily store this password, do NOT store in browser.

Might wanna reformat your pc. You might be the one with the virus/keylogger in your computer. Last thing you want is a hacker having access to your Dedi.

What hosting provider are you currently using? Do they have any web-based anti-virus software available for you to remove the virus(es) from your account?

I'm assuming you are a newbie, so I don't think getting a dedicated server is a good idea. I recommend getting a decent shared hosting package.

The user's gone after creating promotional thread in favor of 2 hosting providers, or at least it looks like this. They haven't come back to participate this thread 5 days after it was opened (04-20-2010).
