Have you heard of myotherdrive.com? I just found out about them. I like the idea of backing up my files online for increased safety. But is this safe after all? What do you think?

Another good option instead of online backup is Rebit:

http://www.rebit.com/products.html

It's totally automatic and restoring a file or entire system is easy.

Never heard of it. Personally, I'd much rather use an external hard drive for backups. Or better yet, use RAID on your system.

To be honest I rarely backup any files. I just can't be bothered ^^

All my life's work is on my computer and I don't know what I would do if I were to lose those files. That is why I backup regularly.

Rebit seems nice, but MyOtherDrive gives 2GB free account and it offers automatic backup software for free.

Online backup is nowadays a really good solution. Many companies are offering it actually.
Just take a look http://online-data-backup-review.toptenreviews.com/

External hard drive would be a easy way of backing your data up, or maybe use a slave drive and they are easy to install.

I never heard about the file hosting site. Normally when I need to store files or distribute files to my friends and other people, I would use Ziddu or Rapidshare. It looks like a good alternative though.

Actually it's secondary purpose is the option to share files publicly, like on Rapidshare for instance. Primary goals is to keep a backup of your local files.

I see. Of course there is nothing wrong with storing files on such file hosting servers. If just think that for some people, it's not the first option for security reasons.

why don't you use Skydrive which is provided by windows live and gives 25 GB for backup or dropbox which provides 5 gb of free online backup... they are more popular and reliable..
I frankly have not heard about myotherdrive - is it good...I am willing to try new things.

RAID is not a disaster recovery solution. And while eternal hard drives give you some protection, offsite backups like those discussed are far better solutions.
