I posted this on WHT and some other forums awhile ago, but since I am new here, I thought I would also share this information with all of you here. Anyway, Hope you find this information helpful..

- When selecting a web host, make sure the web host has been in business for at least 5 years (size doesn't matter, but how long the company has been in web hosting does). A good way to check for how long a web hosting company has been in business is by running a whois on they're domain name.

- Make sure the company you are going with has a phone number. This way if something goes wrong with your web site, you have an alternate method of contacting the company (other than email or support tickets).

- Last but not least, ask questions! Before you sign-up with a new web host, make sure you contact the company and ask questions. Then ask your-self the following, were my questions answered in a timely manner? Was the response professional and courteous? Asking questions will give you a good feel for what you can expect from your potential web host (and limit the chances of you having a bad experience). In short, don't be shy! It might save you time and money.

With that being said, at the end of the day its all about finding a web host that works for you. Dont take someones word for it, there are many good companies and there are bad companies. I believe if you follow the above points, you will have a better chance of finding a web host you can trust and depend on.

Great tips. I have mixed feelings about the web host age though. Just because a web host is new doesn't mean it is not reliable. It could be a new yet very well built and managed web host. It could also be reseller of a well established web host.

I agree, just because a company is young does not mean it is not reliable. However, what I am saying is that a company that has been around 5+ years is less likely of going out of business than that of a company who has only been around for only 1-2 years.

Very true. Also, a company that has been in business for 5+ years will often times (not always) be able to offer better and more reliable service than some of the newer providers

In that case, I would have to agree with you. At least, a web host which has been around for five years and still survives has proven itself to be reliable and trusted by its customers.

Well as I stated, I think the newer the company (the higher the risk), the longer the company has been in business the lower the risk). Not saying all new companies are bad, just recommending people do they're DD when selecting a web host. I don't know how many horror stories I have read through-out the years of web hosting companies hitting the scene for 1-2 years and then vanishing into thin air (leaving they're customers with-out any kind of notice).

Thanks for suggestions, I will go for co-location because of Colo 1 server price is $55 - $99 month.

Well obviously look at the price and what they have to offer. look to see what kind of control panel they have for there clients. Also find the guaranteed uptime before you buy. That way you know what your getting into. And see what kind of money back guarantee they offer. If they dont have one. Find a company that does.
