I'm just wondering if i should switch to web hosting ? and does it cost less

As any business It can be profitable, if you're doing right things and have patience.

Just remember that you won't get rich overnight. Hosting business isn't very easy to run and you need a lot of technical knowledge. But if you work hard it will pay you back for sure.

What kind of an advice is that? Nothing in this business is easy, unless an operator intentionally deceives clients. Plenty of examples, but one most popular one is offering unlimited hosting for a price of a cup of coffee.

nicHosting, truth is, if you want to become good and successful in the web hosting business, you need to realize that it is tedious work. Yes, being a programmer, I think you have a good chance to succeed, but my advice to you - stick around the hosting forums, read and learn as much as possible before you venture into it. Web hosting has become more of a lifestyle for many in the business, which means you ALWAYS think about your business. There are no true weekends and vacations are difficult to take, unless you have help.

Study your local market first, see if there is an opportunity to grow small. Then start with a trusted and reliable reseller hosting provider, build your client base, make sure your customers are happy enough to spread the word about you.

I wouldn't say that it is hard but it certainly takes some degree of work. I'd do some research first to see exactly what is needed (ie. site, billing panel, reseller plan, etc.) and then come up with a business plan that will help guide you

If you do it right, it can certainly be very profitable

Affiliate online marketing has no cost, so obviously reseller hosting is more expensive. However, you can make a lot more money this way

As to what all the other people said I would have to agree.

I would like to say it would be smarter to get a reseller package first before buying a Dedicated or VPS server. With most reseller plans, you even get free billing systems and such most of the time which would cut your costs even more.

Web Hosting is only profitable if you are willing to wait for the return and your willing to put work into the company.

Web hosting business is not so simple as it sounds (does it sound simple anyway? ). I agree with MtotheC then. Being a hosting reseller maybe a good start while you are learning more about this field.

In addition since your new I would find a host who offers very good support and who answer all types of questions and would help you with a clients account if needed.

I say this because when your new, a lot of problems are going to arise that you've never seen before. A host like stated would come in handy to be able to answer that question (help if needed to solve it) along with them being able to respond quickly.

Since you seem new, I would start with a shared hosting account to get familiar with your host, cPanel, web sites and there common problems, and such.

Welcome to HD, nicHosting.
I too suggest you to start with dedicated server/reseller account and then proceed further with web hosting business. Then after you learn or you gain expertise you can move ahead.

hi for starting a webhosting co.. where ever it is you need to think of the initial investment... which includes the reseller account or a decicated server or a vps... then if you want it to be a full time profession you wil have to design a dynamic webpage, ecommerce enabled... then the advertisement....

The success of this business really requires patience and lots of it... so you need to calculate your expenses for at least 6 months and then jump into this... later on you need to hire professionals for the tecnical support you gonna give to your customers... If you have patients and do the necessary the right way i say you should go for this... competition is huge... people dont mind spending an extra pound where they get an immediate reponse to their query... if you have any questions feel free to email me at the following email id.

Web hosting could be your thing. Does it cost less than affiliate online marketing? Don't know - what were your expenses? To do this right, you'll definitely jumpstart your hosting business with some form of advertising - what are you projecting for your budget? Do you have a business plan?

I think only you can decide if you should switch. Good luck whatever you decide.

Remember starting your own business is a job. It will take a lot of hard work and or money to be successful.

I agree with others to start small, reseller account and stick with it.

1- there are lots of good threads here about starting your business and getting it set up.
2 - it will be profitable if you put the time and effort into it.

Also search for reseller guides that can help you get started. They usually have all the information you need to get your business running.
