So I was on Bluehost, and has to switch because they didn't allow nudity and had limitations to how many databases and tables in those databases I could have. Found HostGator, and was happy with the speed of my site and the face that they allowed nudity and didnt have database restrictions, or any other restrictions for that matter, other than the fact that shared didnt have FFMPEG, which is to be expected. Or so I thought, until I tried running the 'timthumb' wordpress script, which needs special permissions and 777 i believe. I had to call them to lift the restriction. Has me wondering what else might not work until i call them.

So I'm looking for suggestion/recommendations on reputed hosts that allow nudity, are fast, and don't have so many restrictions.

TimThumb should work on a 755 permission setup. You just need to be sure that any files uploaded from your previous host are set with the correct permissions also, however the script will work on a 755 setting. Setting it to 777 is very bad as it opens the folder for hacking and uploads which can be written and executed.

If you need FFMPEG I do suggest staying out of the shared host environment and going with a VPS server so you can control the environment, but there are a few hosts out there that will operate FFMPEG.

Do a check for "ffmpeg hosting" in google, you'll find many results and many cheap results too. cirtexhosting.com is one of those that do ffmpeg and are in the same price range as the hosts you were previously with.

I do not have any experience with cirtex, but it might be worth you checking them out - they also offer adult hosting with FFMPEG enabled.

Depends also on what sort of nudity. For example, I have 2 clients, one has nudity in his tattoo/body modification site, the other is a photographer. Both of those are fine. However, a full on pornography site is a totally different issue.

Many hosts have the same rules, you just have to make a sort list of hosts you like, then simply ask them about your content.

Also, we're able to talk from personal experience. We operate our own facility in Canada but for the US market we have a few Managed Dedicated Servers with ZipServers. Their equipment is located with SoftLayer who is one of the industry leaders for data centers. In addition, their technical support team is educated and they deliver results within a reasonable timeline.

However, if your adult site is generating a lot of traffic or requires more then average use of resources such as CPU, or is heavy on php/MySQL etc you may want to investigate into a VPS solution. The reason is, most web hosting providers do have limitations set for their shared hosting plans in order to ensure that all sites hosted on the dedicated server are responsive.

As for the issue you experienced earlier, keep in mind that all script files must have permissions of 644 or less and all directories must have permissions of 755 or less. Either way, I think you ought to be in good hands with HostGator and it there just happened to be a permission issue for your script.

You don't need 777 on Hostgator, they run suPHP which runs the PHP as your user name (and not as "nobody"). This means that what would traditionally require 777 only requires 755.

Trust me, anywhere it says to do 777, do 755 and things will work as you expect.

Go European. there are some blazing fast webhosts which don't care about the nudity but you cant have gambling. One of my favorite forums has a lightning fast vbulletin, and i log onto others and run around the block waiting for it t load.

You can look in the advertising section to find different web hosting companies, find a company you like then email them and see if they allow the specifications you have.

I don't think it is as simple as searching for adult hosting. I have photographers sites with arty nudes, but I would never have porn. I think the tatoo sites also fall under art, so many hosts who would disallow porn should welcome these.
Why rule out other hosts by search for those who allow porn?
