Hi,

Social networking sites have a definite impact on web hosts as well as other measures but I believe facebook can not be used for the mentioned purpose.

I do not think that Facebook will be the end of websites. Trends in social networking and technology are constantly evolving. Just because Facebook is one of the most popular social media websites today does not mean that it will be tomorrow. For instance, I remember when MySpace was the go-to social networking website. Now with the emergence of Google+, who is to say that Facebook will be the front runner forever?

Hi,

Usually social network websites have been formed for the people who wish to build social relationship with each other. People are not very much concerned about any other aspects of social networking websites and I understand that it can not be fruitful for web hosts to advertise/promote their services/products on these social networking websites.

I don't believe that Facebook or any other social media will take over websites as we know them. Facebook is a great way to communicate with people about your business, but should not be the center of attention when it comes to advertising your business.

You should never let facebook be your main page. If you want a possible costumer to take your business serious, you need a unique website on your own domain.
I think facebook has too many safety and trust issues to be the home of real business.

Perhaps every thing is turning FACEBOOK. But come to think of it, if facebook should launch its own payment gateway, then the tide is off, you will not need to look further than tackle a whooping 750M niche.

But i don't think facebook is the end of websites, because facebook itself is a website.

This got me thinking about the social network phenomenon and how we as hosters should deal with it.

Obviously I don't think this is the end of websites, but some brainstorming should be done on how we should tackle this phenomenon and what changes should be in order in our business strategy.

Any opinions on this issue will be very much appreciated.

Regards,
Facebook is a very powerful and influential social networking website. It is always beneficial to maintain a good presence there however this fact does not reduce the importance of having a website. The importance of websites will never reduce. Marketing on facebook is alright but in order to conduct online business, everyone will need a website.

Facebook may very well may have been around a while but Google+is only 7 weeks old and has already gained 25 million users. Its relevant and all the "bad" stuff you find on Facebook is not there such as privacy issues.
You are allowed to message select users and not every one at once you can have work contacts and personal and the messages do not need to intertwine.

All social networking is great to promote your business. Most hosting companies use these to the best of their advantage when looking to offer specials, gain clientele, or simply showing that you are willing to have a relationship with them rather than them being a number.

Facebook is one tool in a very specialized toolbox. It's not just a one shot success with any of these tools, however combining several approaches is what defines if you will succeed or not, and your message.

In a sense, all you would have to do is have links from the facebook page going to the website where people can order these pastries. So people would use facebook to go to business's sites. It's a good thing. Could help a lot with popularity or getting more business.

A website has its own identity and it is essential to have a website if you would like to create an online presence. Facebook can be used for the promotion of the website. However for the online transactions, it is essential to have a website.

I think, as a consumer base, as an industry and as internet users, the pastry buying population will eventually want to try something other than FB. Everything has its arch of prominence, look at Microsoft.. I think companies like FB and Google define the ground, but they cannot dominate it forever. They open up a landscape but the landscape will eventually be populated not just by the artist.. (wow, I'm like so Zen..)
