IMO there is to many "kiddie hosts" promising the world for next to nothing. All they do is give the hosting industry a bad name.

I think the whole master and alpha reseller accounts add the problems as you end up with a whole bunch of people selling something they don’t really have a clue about to another bunch of people that have no clue.

Anyhow that is my whine for the day lol

Probably you mean to say "too many" and not "to many".

What exactly do you mean by "kiddie host"?

Someone who is roughly in the age range 12-16. With no real idea about hosting with a cheapo reseller account.

I think that's the big one. I know lots of young people who are very experienced with servers, however if they are mature, know how to manage the finances and how to run the servers/reseller/business then It could be a good thing.

No one really knows about hosting until they've been doing it a while. Plus the people who don't know any better are probably not the clients you want anyway!

Kids of today that offer hosting so they can make some $$ for an XBOX, tomorrow owners of large datacenters that want $$$$$$ to buy yachts.

BeZazz, this has been discussed again and again and again and again.

Perhaps you could provide some sort of data on the percentage of "kiddie" hosts who are ripping people off or just trying to make some money for an xbox with the number of 20+ year old hosts who are ripping people off and trying to make a quick buck for whatever reason.

Age has little relevance to the discussion of who is a reliable and honest host.

Any person who gets burned by a "kiddie host" is just another person willing to pay more for proper service.

Lessons are learned, losers go out of business, economy adapts and the free market triumphs.

Looks to me like everything is playing out how it should.

I think He means there're too many unreliable hosting who don't offer what they announced and offer bad customer support.

IMO it does for many reasons.

For AFAIK they can not even accept payments (legally) let alone have a credit card etc to make payments to providers.

They have school and probably a bed time.

Possibly don’t even actually own the computer they use to do everything on the Internet, let alone have control over the choice / use of ISP. So they can have their computer / Internet access taken off them.

There is many reasons why a teenager should not be taking peoples money for providing hosting.

Which of course does not mean that there isn’t plenty of older people that shouldn’t be doing it either just more reasons why kids shouldn’t.

While do agree with what you have said. I still think it helps to give the industry as whole a bad name.

And what would your proposal be to rid the Internet of kiddie hosts? And who would decide who stays and who goes? I have to say I've seen some 12 to 16 year old people who were mature beyond their years, moreso than some supposed adults. In the same vein, if I need to host mission critical data, I'll always opt for a stable host that has been around a few years and has a history of good customer support.

There's nothing wrong with Teenagers going into the Hosting Industry. I believe what SlickWebHost said is right

They might be successful web hosting leaders in the future
