I would never think to trsh nother company - but everyone knows 1and1 seems to have a lot of problems.

Any company has both nice and bad reviews. That's quite natural.

I think if the company has no reviews, that's better in any way./

Only thing is they tie you to 12 month contracts, and so do other companies same as 1&1.

I have heard terrible stories about it.

IMO stay away, they have enough business to handle, give the smaller boys a chance because the big boys really do not care (from stories and experience)

But their control panel sucks also.

I must admit I do agree with Paul.. They seem to like their contracts which makes you seem "stuck", especially if the support team is unable to resolve an issue or you see a decrease in performance. Your basically stuck in that contract or else penalties will be put towards your name.

The only thing I did not like about 1&1 hosting was their domain management. It was a real pain in my butt to cancel my hosting. Rather than allowing me to just log in to cancel my domain when I did not want to renew I had to physically pick of the phone to speak to an actual human to do it manually. How is that convenient for the customer?

Yeah, not everything is great about them, but they seem to be pretty intriguing to the newbies. They have some nice website building utilities and it looks like they may be trailing just a tad behind Intuit and their easy 1-2-3 setup. That's really where all their money comes from, people who want sites up for their new startup and what have you, not particularly focused towards hobbyists.

To be honest the only reason I signed up with them was the 2 free domains. I had the money for hosting but really wanted the domains more. The web hosting was simple to cancel. But over all I had no problem at all with their services and phone support and service in my opinion was excellent and efficient.

1&1 is a very big company and in such companies a small percentage of mistakes or delays may happen. One should not judge a host solely based on this fact. Personally i do not use 1&1 hosting, but i have heard some good and some bad review about it.

1&1 is one of the most popular and post aggressive providers on the market. I can not say anything about their services because I respresent a web hosting provider, however my impression is that they are trying to underbid the market prices attracting attention with cheap offerings.
