Time to do some looking around again. LiveZilla has worked well for us, but this seems like a huge jump from FREE to this price model.

Dam now that is beyond a joke!

Why do these people think everyone can afford stupid prices for software?
It's becoming stupid.

Must agree, do not pay such a stupid fee.

If they asked for £50-£100 for upgrading fair enough, but 1k in euros is pathetic imo

That's really costly.
It doesn't worth that money.

The real cost is not the price itself, and it actually depends on how often they will switch from one major version to the next.

Also, they have quite some userbase by now. Going from free to paid, even if the price would be $2, would still mean a huge reduction in the number of users. The optimum sale price in order to maximize profit must be quite a bit higher. We should not forget that users having years of familiarity with this piece of software will be reluctant to change, and thus will be more likely to pay up, especially if their business is doing OK.

Thanks for your email.

No, we don't send you any invoices.

LiveZilla 3.x was free and remains free. You can use it for free as long
as you like to.

However, LiveZilla 4.x is not free anymore. If you like to update, you
would need to buy a license (starting at 69€).

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your interest in LiveZilla Live Support!

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have further questions.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Best Regards,
LiveZilla Support

just found out that livezilla is not going to provide any updates to the 3.x branch, which means if the dev has stopped, then remaining with the software is moot

I'm not too sure where to sit on this one in all honesty as they are certainly with that figure (depending on the operators a company has) working out more expensive than the big names such as kayako and say zopim.. which was popular for some time... which certainly have better features in terms of whmcs and various bits and bobs....

It could be a bad move as I suspect the user base will drop more than expected just as spotify experienced.. their saving grace was new users who didn't know any better somewhat... whereas I doubt that will be the case for livezilla

Livezilla has a decent reputation but if you are going to have to pay now then many will be looking for a better product with better features. I don't know if that is a good move for them.
