Everyone has a voice to voice their opinion. Of course, there is a fine line between voice an opinion and slander/libel (whatever applies). I am not a lawyer but I doubt it can land him in jail, but a serious fine for damages can certainly be the consequence.
Besides, I would like to first get on HostGator's payroll to get at least some benefit in doing so.

Slander is spoke words, Libel is written words.
a fine will be applied if you have the mega funds to persue a libel case

This guy has been around the hosting forums i participate in with this boycott.
this person has a personal vendetta against Cpanel and a few hosts.
there is bound to be a flaw in any software and some go unpatched for some time because they aren't considered serious.
microsoft knew about a flaw in it's os for over 4 years, so do we switch everyone to linux or mac? NO because it's not practical and the flaw was an insignificant one that had never been exploited in the wild.

Really here is a way to fix that you can use a software like 1h hive which does the chroot thing and your good to go. Stop your whining and move on.

Can't verify the accuracy of this, but found the following this morning.
Quote:
*** US States with Criminal Defamation Penalties
Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Nevada, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Utah, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin, along with Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The following states DO NOT have criminal penalties for libel, defamation or slander. Victims in these states would have to seek civil remedies: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

Steve, thanks for the research. I am too lazy sometimes to do it.

This whole article is funny. I trust cpanel, been using it for 8 years now I believe and I trust it 100%
Like art said, stuff gets hacked, stolen and destroyed all the time on the internet. Make backups, restore and move on. Your crusade has failed so please stop. HD is a awesome forum and I agree with Steve. "Your intent was not to warn our community at Hosting Discussion about cPanel or Hostgator." I believe it was to start trouble. Please stop, chat on other topics, and enjoy the forum.

Why would anyone spend this much time bashing cpanel? Definitely makes you wonder.. I know I wish I could have the 5 mins back I just spent reading through this thread

personally i think the basher is an ex client of hostgator (they terminated him) so he started bashing them and cpanel on as many forums as possible with some forums banning him for his constant bashing.
I have been running a hosting business since 1999 with cpanel on all my servers and always upgrade to latest stable version and have never had any problems.
cases where i have needed support from cpanel i have received this within hours of requesting.

I think Terry has got the right take on this. While I've read the reports, I cannot validate whether he did in fact work for HostGator. That's not even the point.
There is simply no benefit at all in going out of your way to bash cPanel (it is mostly about cPanel, as he talks about various hosts, although tying HostGator to this so passionately kind of attaches him to the firm in more personal ways). There is no economic benefit for him in bashing, only legal liability. Which definitely makes me think it is done for personal reasons.
Anyway, given that members of HostingDiscussion are smart enough to see through this sort of talk and the fact that the member hasn't been making much sense to begin with and wasn't even back since, this thread is now closed.
