Do you just offer PayPal & nothing along side it? Best to give customers a choice!

Nope, PayPal blocks a large number of countries! For a personal non-hosting site I used to run 2CheckOut / Google Checkout side by side with PayPal for the purpose of supporting majority of the countries / giving choice.

Paypal is secure but not all webmasters are able to use it because of their geographic locations.

I like paypal alot but it is expensive. Also we use Linkpoint which is nice.

What back office or CMS do you use? generally the back office system will have supported API's for many gateway services. Start with the supported API's. If you are not using a back office system to bill your clients (I Would suggest getting one WHMCS is fantastic and affordable.) Then I would suggest Paypal and Google Checkout.

Give your customers options and they will use what they are most comfortable with.

+1 - A big bonus is the very competitive rates per transaction, compared to Google Checkout & 2CheckOut to start with....

2checkout 2.9% to 5.5% of total amount plus $0.30 to $0.45 per transaction.

Google Checkout 1.4% to 3.4% of total amount plus 20p per transaction.

Had just been using PP, bu with WHMCS now I am looking into other options as well. But no one has ever had a problem with PP here.

One thing I have against PayPal is the customer support -via email (phone is better) I find that generally prefer canned responses than to actually read and reply to emails properly

We utilize Paypal, Google Checkout and dutch bank transfer. The majority of our clients use Paypal which we are very happy with.

Just recently there's been a definite rise in the number of payments coming from Google checkout. I suppose with the growing number of android users out there that's to be expected.

Recently checked out Payza (previously Alertpay) but they still aren't compliant for the UK market so UK accounts aren't available & they can't do any business there - which for a UK company is dreadful. I'll be giving them a miss

And i dont think they will anytime soon. Alertpay did work in the UK ( we are UK business which used then) but then all of a sudden we were emailed to say due to FSA involvement Alertpay could no longer offer services in the UK, then a few months later they vanished and returned as Payza.

so they must have done something serious for the FSA to block them in the UK

Only guessing: I think it would have been related to the type of users they really attracted, I know a lot of illegal activity based selling was done via AlertPay (it really was like the "personal" PayPal back in the day).

Hopefully they will soon be able to re-open services in the UK - Would love to give the new Payza a go, I've heard a lot of positive (mind you also negative) from them.
