Simple, if you are into serious business, pay for it.

If you go free, you don't own anything and you have no right to complain.

Of course it's better to go with paid hosting, but free is OK if you're just playing around. If you're serious about what you've got online, then make the commitment and go paid.

The web hosting platform that you select for your business website is an investment and not an expense. Even if it is a personal website you must look for the best. A reputed web hosting company that provides with managed web hosting platforms will be able to provide you with the best infrastructure for managing your website.

A shared host is far better than a free one. At least you know there will be support and a up time guarantee.

Then again you have shared hosts which have worse service than some free hosts. Free hosting is fine for those who just started with web and are testing things, abd need to learn, both about web and hosting.

Once that period is over it's easy to move to paid service.

There are very few services out their where free services are better than many paid ones. Essentially a free host needs revenue otherwise its all on the pockets of the admins / owners.

There are however a few free hosts that are subsidiaries of paid hosting providers (********** for example).

Google is offering free hosting for 1 year using Intuit site builder which is the same as SiteBuilder Plus at Homestead. Looks pretty good -- especially for free

I think if you want hosting for testing, you should be able to do that on your own PC, laptop (and even tablet these days), and if it's worthy of a real domain then pay for your hosting.

If your site is not worthy of paying for, why are you putting in on the internet?

Having said that, we've hosted free site before for charities and their seasonal/temporary sites.
But then, an offer from a hosting company is not the same as looking for free hosting.

Well, you could actually apply for Free Hosting if you want to try out how its like for hosting. Then you can go for paid hosting to develop your actual websites and applications.

As the saying goes, what you pay for is what you get. Nothing is ever free You should go for a reliable hosting provider to avoid problems. Hosting required dedicated team of people to manage servers and provide reliable infrastructure. This is not possible with a free provider and you will run into problems.
