If your website is busy and heavy, you should probably have enough knowledge to assume a shared hosting environment won't be the proper kind of solution for you.

However, in the defense of clients, unfortunately most do not possess that kind of knowledge because the common spread of unlimited offers persuade customers in the opposite - is that an unlimited plan suits all.
My site really is not that busy but it does take up almost 20gb of space. Mainly because of the over 13,000 games I have in the arcade. I wish it was back up to needing vps or semi dedicated but it does not require that any more. How ever I still require a lot of space. No unlimited as of yet meets my needs for space because of the inode limit.

I would always take the balance of price and quality of service. Price does not always define everything for me. Sometimes there are cheap services that we thought would never be as good as those expensive ones but when we try it , it actually gives best results. So for me I always consider that quality and price equally.

If you will look for a cheap hosting remember that it will not be stable for longer. You can also find cheap downtimes and cheap customer support in exchange.

For a cheap provider , its not possible to cover up server cost, a normal server cost $100/mo which can host a good number of clients but if they start selling for $ 5/yr then how can they cover up their cost?? they will oversell their service and hence you may face issues like over loads and they may even close up their service anytime without notice.

you can get a decent sized VPS from $30 a month and offer a stable service, so selling $5 plans then sell 6 and you have your server covered.

even if your full costs are $100 then at $5 plans you can still offer a stable service as 20 sales and you have covered yourself. and 20 accounts on a server is way from overselling the server.

price doesnt matter always.the thing that matter is the quality assurance.if someone is paying a good price then its natural that he must be expecting a good service also.

Do you think that hosting prices are a sign of trust ?
The best way is to research about the hosting first, and just out the reviews from google. if they are offering good support and reliability in cheap hosting then go for it, otherwise don't.

Of course you must see when its so low (even with good reviews etc...) then it may be a to good to be true offer .

$12 per year, unlimited space bandwidth, free domain name but the company has several good reviews recently. I still wouldn't consider touching that company .

I think he talked about reviews in long term. No one looks for just recent reviews if you ask me. You'd always want to look at the bigger picture and see how they have fared since the last couple of years at least.

That's why not many people actually go for new webhosts, no matter how cheap or expensive their plans are.

Even with that $12 unlimited plan, the webhost would get a profit of $2-3 at least. So he won't mind selling that plan to at least 20 such clients every month if he is on a VPS.

That $2 - $3 is over a 1 year period. So to actually profit (Server costs, employees or for your own living, licensing costs etc...) you'd need to seriously overload the box.

Well I am pretty sure a person selling web hosting services for his living won't sell a $12/year plan.

But generally 20 websites on a VPS won't really blow it off.

I think a new, small webhost would start with such kind of plans. But eventually they will all raise their prices substantially for growth in longer term.

As a promotion at maximum, for the first year then normal pricing. Starting off with these prices are just and keeping them ongoing just isn't profitable.

20 sites can easily overload a VPS depending on its spec, after you consider the VPS resources, the cPanel resource usage + all the extras you have filled it with.

But I do see your point also .

Exactly my point. Eventually they have to raise the prices to be able to expand. And not to mention, to eliminate low quality accounts from their clientbase.

cheap is never the best. You need to be confident about your hosting company and feel comfortable with their services and budget

I think that depends from person to person. Some people don't have high requirements and the cheap service provided by their web host is enough.

Then again, not all cheap hosts are horrible. Some do provide excellent services.

Able to solve tickets, is main motive, even if it's cheap hosting.
