What should be the best price for ID protection?

If you are referring to domain privacy protection you'll at least need to cover the charge to your business (if any) and any transactional fees incurred. Some providers use it as an additional revenue stream for their business and others still provide privacy protection for free. I don't think there is a 'best' price.

I dont think there is a standard price. For example we offer it free but I also know that some companies charge for it so there is no standard price rather depends on your business model

Different providers have different pricing for hiding the identity for your domain and hosting.

Now a days many of the qualified identity theft protection service providers providing free demo as a trial for at least a week you can try & go ahead with the best as per your convenience & satisfaction. ID protection is much important against fraud things.

As you provide web hosting service, I think you can always learn from other hosts and offer a reasonable price to people..

Many providers provide the service for free while others sale it for a few dollars. For us we thought it was something we could do for our clients for free but as long as you stay reasonable in price there is no problem charging for it.

That is hardly the case with most providers.

A lot of domain registrars now make a charge for this and it is upto the host if he passes this charge to his clients.

Resellerclub now charge GBP 1.79 (approx. USD 2.58) for Privacy Protection, so i have a choice either swallow up these costs or make a charge to clients.

As domains are only a secondary income as it is hard for a small host to compete with the big players like Go Daddy, 123-reg so only make at most 1 on domains then this cost cannot be swallowed and has to be passed onto clients

I have used Namecheap for many years and never had any issues. The Whois costs $2.88 per year.

There are numerous registers who offer it free. Yes the charge is there BUT Hosting firms can decide to shoulder that cost and that is what we decided to do too

Registrars that are ICANN accredited have to now charge for this service, this is why resellerclub started charging as it was always a free service apart from namecheap.

yes as you say it is then upto the host if they swallow these charges or make it a chargeable service.

Don't forget that if you purchase a domain for commercial purposes then you are not allowed to hide your privacy in a whois search

True the context under which its offered free is where the hosts decide not to pass on the charge and several are taking it up largely because its demand isnt that big I guess.
