Hi!

My name is Alain and I'm searching for a good host for my website. Actually this is a forum for students with up to 600 members en this number will grow in the future. My host, from the Netherlands, offers me 10 GB of traffic per month. This will not be enough I think . My stats say the same...

While searching I've past www.surpasshosting.com, it all looks very fine but when I read there terms of use, I had my doubts. I checked the "Essentials" of the hosting pack "Power" and they offer 50 GB of traffic, 3 gb of disc space... In there terms of use they limit the use of it.

My question is, do I violate there terms of use, when there is a monthly traffic of 15 a 20 gb, and I use around 500 MB on the server??
If there are other/better hostings, let me hear of it.

While your best bet is to ask someone at SurpassHosting as they will be the only ones who can say for sure what is a violation, and what isn't - it looks to me as though per their AUP, and RAP you'll be in the clear as long as you are not eating up their server CPU/Memory:

So basically what they're going for there is that after you use 70% of your disk quota they will be looking at your account and making sure you're not distributing anything illegal.

I didn't see anything on their Policies page that said anything about transfer - but of course it is hard to read small gray text on a white background.

I asked my question here because (the most) members of this forum are not directly linked to surpass, so they can give an objective answer.
The policies may look clear for you, but sometimes they're difficult to understand for "strangers" , linke me ...

It is very important for me to know all the details... I don't want to be surprised once I've made an account.

No, and it is smart to always get a second, third, and even fourth opinion - I just wanted to make sure that you didn't take how I interrupted their policies as set in stone.

Surpasshosting is owned/operated by Hostdime. They have their own datacenter, DimeNoc. I used to hear a lot about them back when they were one of the cheapest hosts around. Today they're not expensive by any means, but they've lost the edge. (Rather the whole market has gone crazy.)

Well first of all you have to read TOS, AUP, etc. Then if you have questions or concerns find support mail and mail them. Very simple procedure.

I dont think cost is a factor here, I think level of service is the question.

Have you also contacted them and requested clear answers for the "limits" you are concerned about? Forum sites generally have large databases and consume high amounts of CPU power due to high traffic they are generating. Some hosts may warn you due to this high CPU usage. Other than that web space and bandwidth limits should not be a problem.

I would imagine that if you went over the bandwidth usage for any given month you would be charged extra for it. That's what most hosting providers seem to do. Well the ones that I have looked at anyway.

Many web hosting providers also charge an extra fee for more storage.
