I have been asked a question by a client that I don't know nor can I find an answer to. I was hoping to get some insight here.

They want to park their domain and then have it forwarded and masked also. They are wondering if the IP address will be that of where it is parked or forwarded to? Also they wanted to know if a visitor can tell if a URL is masked?

Any input on this will be great. Thanks again.

AFAIK, the IP would be determined by the nameservers. So, in your case, I'd assume that the IP address would come from where it is parked.

While the browser doesn't say that a website the visitor is viewing has a masked URL, it is quite easy to identify.

Can you go into more details on this, please?

I have been playing around with a site and I have noticed that the displayed URL address stays the same (what it was masked to say) no matter where you go in the site. Where as without a mask it would not.

Thanks for the reply and comments

As the page is loading, you can very easily see the real URLS on status(?) bar at the bottom. Masking is just a silly way of hiding, any smart user will identify the real URL anyways.

most people who mask their urls are running scam sites. Most popular are masking ebay.com and paypal.com so you think that you are on the real site, but really on a fake one.
