Well, it's recommended by two of the biggies in this industry - -Chad Bean, Chief Marketing Officer, HostGator and -Matthew Pugh, CEO WHMCS Ltd. That speaks volumes.

Nice ebook, But like many others say, I don't really like to read ebooks, Some of them is just copied information from the web.

I'm not really determined on e-books you know, but as long you read the whole thing, it was not a waste for you to avail or purchase it.

It's a good e-book and it could be useful to anyone here.

Paid books could be the best if only the content and information you read are really effective. But when you purchase the e-book with false information, it is useless.

Just took an extended look at this ebook and noticed your testimonial. Would you tell us your most important take from this book?

I wrote the author the same day I posted here. Didn't even noticed he placed it on his site!

Many of the things he covered in his book I had to figure out myself the hard way. But, I still learned alot from reading it since I've only been in the hosting business for less than 2 years. I recommend any newcomers to the hosting industry to read this book, for sure. Some veterans might even learn something new, also.

Chapters 5, 6, and 7 interested me the most.

Thanks for posting this to share with us! I'm looking forward to checking it out now. Any tips are helpful at this point, so thanks. I'd rather learn by reading than by making the mistakes.

It certainly does have a lot of industry names plugged on the site, but before I even read the praise, I wanted to just look into the actual author... to see who the guy is. To my surprise I did not find any information that would make me believe the person is qualified enough to write a book.

First, I land on the About page that has this posted about him:
Quote:
The author has over 12 years experience in starting, growing, managing, and selling his own web hosting businesses. He started his first web hosting company at the age of 21 and has successfully grown the business into a multimillion dollar web hosting company.

Together with his wife, he manages to grow his first company from a literally a one man show to a staff of over 50 people with offices both in his home country and in the United States where he currently resides.

Under his management the company grew from utilizing a single reseller account to owning over 130 servers which are being collocated in a data center residing in the heart of Silicon Valley.

He then sold his first web hosting company through a well known merger & acquisition deal in late 2007.

Today he is currently running his second web hosting company and has successfully acquired a substantial amount of market share in today’s highly competitive web hosting market.
What I find ridiculous is that there is not one piece of information posted here that actually matters. 12 years experience? A multi-million dollar company? Successful and well-known acquisition deal? To me, it adds a lot more credibility if they were to actually name those companies. Isn't it the most powerful marketing when you can actually vouch for it by backing it up? When Bill Clinton or Bill Gates write a book, you don't hear it being promoted as: "written by a high profiled successful politician who served the country for 20 years", or "written by a very very very successful and influential IT manager of a multi-billion dollar software company"...

And I am sorry, but what is this creapy thing about?
Quote:
The author chooses to use his new name which was given to him through a dream, Abrahim Ikasud. The author’s real name is Jimmy Tanzil.
OK, fine, if that makes someone sell an extra copy, what do I care...

But I search for the name and again - if you are in this business successfully for 12 years, you go through well known acquisition - your name (be it a real or a fairy name) ought to come up with something valid. The only solid sites that I could come up with are these:

http://www.ichthysmedia.com - a religious donation page??
http://seohn.net/ - some SEO/hosting reseller tool with HostGator affiliate?
http://www.webhostshift.com - a hosting service thing that doesn't even load.

He might be a good enough writer for an ebook, but why should I, or someone else, buy it?

I think he ran 2ip.com up until recently? Not that it can be seen as a success story.

I forgot to mention 2ip.com in my post above. I wouldn't go there though as it just forwards to HostGator through affiliate link...

Good questions, Artashes. I think the biggest endorsement of this book comes from HostGator, which offers it free with all new reseller accounts. Here's my take on why you should spend the money.

Quite a few new web hosting entrepreneurs lack competency in some facet of business - as evidenced by their high failure rate. When the going rate for an online ad in a major metropolitan area exceeds $300, spending $20, $30 or $60 on a related industry recommended book is a value-add investment in yourself.

I can't recommend this book because I've never read it, but HostLeet has bought it and recommended it, as well as the CEO of WHMCS. I intend to purchase it, if for no other reason than curiousity.

I just ran across this on Amazon as well

Quote:
Jimmy was the former owner of hostdepartment.com. I've had the pleasure of working with him in the past, and he's by far as legitimate a businessman as he is an entrepreneur. Host Department reached its height of success in 2005-2006 with Jimmy's leadership and it was a company with more than 40 employees. As an author of this book, Jimmy (if he is) is a reliable author with applicable experiences and technical skills. Buy the book and you'll see why.

Now THAT is what I've been looking for! HostDepartment indeed was a large company and if he was the one behind the steering wheel, then well deserved of course. My only wonder is why not just tell that to people to sell more books?? They have made this info uneasy to access...

I can see where you're coming from Artashes. But, in all honesty, not many (if any) of the people buying this book will know what HostDepartment.com is, or how successful of a company it was.

So, I think saying:

"The author has over 12 years experience in starting, growing, managing, and selling his own web hosting businesses. He started his first web hosting company at the age of 21 and has successfully grown the business into a multimillion dollar web hosting company."

Will sell more books than just saying he was the former owner of HostDeparment.com, which I never heard of until I read the book.
