Interesting subject; doesn't seem to relate to what you asked much though. Well to answer your subject, reseller packages are more "expensive" because most people who get them are trying to start a small hosting company. Note the term reseller, the definition for reseller in my words is to re sell something. Meaning the company expects you to be making money off of it, so they can change you a bit more. Shared hosting is what you should probably go after. You might want to check out a host like site5.com so you can have a unlimited amount of domains hosted on one account (with site5’s multi site technology)

Hi,

They are expensive because they enable you to resell space which brings you in income. (Business Investment) and also they let you host multiple domains etc. but be careful when purchasing. Get a idea on what packages you want to resell and work out a profit margin. Also if you dont want to resell look at packages that are within your budget and will get the best results for your sites

Most providers who sell reseller hosting packages, enable overselling...which really should be watched out for. Now with that being said, when providers oversell, most seem to think that it is an extra feature...but really it's mis-leading to the customer. With the "extra value" they feel they can charge more for. On the other hand you have decent providers that have a good network, excellent support, and unmatched service, well they have overhead costs which they have to make up for providing that great support, service and network, in return high costs for the consumer.

Actually, they have to charge more, for the resellers, on the whole, will be using more of everything.

I agree totally, yes they have to charge more...but overselling IMO is NOT an extra vauled added feature, if anything its a tease.

I currently have a reseller account to host multiple domains and the price to me is just right. 1 shared account will host one domain (sometimes more) but under one control panel. With a multi domain or reseller you can host more domains with their own control panel. It makes since that it would cost more.

It cost me 1/4 of the price to host all my domains, 20+ under one reseller account than to buy a shared plan for each. IMHO reseller plans are much cheaper for multi-domain hosting!

You can always make your money back or at lease break even if you know how to sell it.

You may want to get a small plan which will be cheap I am referring to ~5gb or so plans.

A shared hosting account with WHM is a reseller plan. It's expensive because like others have said, you can host multiple domains on it. The best part is that each user will be able to get their own separate and personal control panel unlike shared where all domains are restricted to 1 control panel account.

If you are unsure which plan to choose, we generally recommend starting out with the Regular Reseller plan because it's less expensive.

I do not think all reseller plans are expensive... Some of the are really cheap..

For example, Webhostgiant.com has not the separate plans for reselling, but it is still possible to resell using their shared hosting plans which allow multiple domains hosting and are extremely cheap.

I think reseller plans are a dirt cheap way of getting in to this business. How many businesses can you think of that you can start for the price of 10 McDonalds/month I view reseller plans as a stepping stone up to VPS, Dedicated and then colocated services. ~$30-$40 isnt really a lot of money if you are starting up a business. You could easily sell 5 hosting plans and cover the costs of your hosting.
