I'm wondering how many people here, actually use music on their websites? I know it can be slow, but flash types of sites usually have them.

What do you guys think about it?

Personally, I'm somewhat against it. Though I REALLY like the idea, I feel that it's not the best incorporation within a site. I've had experiences where I've loaded a site and the next thing my speakers go off 2am

Yes, not the most pleasant type of morning. It basically woke up my family members

*turns his speakers off*

I hate music in websites. I really do. When I hear it, I close my browser and try not to visit the site again.

I think that the only appropriate type of sites the music can be on is on websites of musicians.

I am in full agreement with Artashes. I immediately leave a site that has to blast some kind of tune that thinks they are attracting business.

I am really surprised at the amount of sites that are business orientated that have some voice or java music start playing as soon as you arrive. I don't mind if someone wants to have a presentation that I can start and stop at my leisure. In this day where VOIP is a standard and your speakers may be normally set a little louder than normal, I find it irresponsible of these web masters that believe that will KEEP me at their site.

So all the ones looking in ...... take note

The only time I would really approve music on websites if there was a Stop, Mute and Pause button

I think it really depends. For the most part I'm against it, unless it adds appropriate atmosphere to the site.

Just putting music on a site, just for the sake of having it, is a baaad idea.

For example, commercials, and movies...

These medias uses music to enhance the atmosphere, and feeling behind what you're watching. If music doesn't do this for your site, then don't use it.

I agree with Mark, it depends on the type of music. The music that is played much match the sites theme. For instance, I do not want to hear rap on a site that is supposedly promoting rock-n-roll

I agree that isnt to bad as long as the viewer can click a stop button or similar in case they dont want to hear it. People's tastes differ so I think is better to just not have it. Definitely not on a business site but I added music to my kid's site built him and my wife's site did for her cause they are mostly just for them and not for marketing anything

I do think that hearing music on a site can make any visitor to annoy and the user tends to close the window. But Music is different from Sounds. My vote goes to sounds. When a user try to click a button(made of gif file), I use sounds so that they frequently use those type of buttons. And therefore this results in more use of your site.
So, use sounds, but dont use music to your site. This is the word from me.

The only time I like music on a site is where the user starts it if they want and it's relevant to the page (such as promoting an artist or band), however if I stumble upon someones blog do I really want to be treated to a badly encoded version of their favourite song of the moment played in a constant loop with no hope of stopping the music and thus causing me to navigate away from the page.
