Well, i think that phpBB is the best free forum. It's really nice, specially the new version.
For the paid ones, they are really similar, but i think vBulletin is better than ipb. I has more options and mods.

My vote goes for vBulletin aswell. It is just a more professional looking board in my opinion, but phpBB 3 is starting to look very promising.

In terms of moderating tools and management, I give my vote to phpBB 3 - they have just nailed the whole process.

That is what I am hearing quite a bit. I think I will be giving this a test run pretty soon and see how it compares to Vbulletin. Its about time phpBB stepped up their game.

Heh, there has never really been a major problem with phpBB, but its about time vBulletin stepped up and made these processes straightforward and user-friendly. They promise to do so with Version 4, but the ETA hasn't been announced, which means its not coming anytime soon.

I like phpbb3 because is easy to use but, if you want to setup a jabber messenger on it, you can. I love it!

I really like Vbulletin from the user end. I've never modded one so I'm not sure what the back end looks like or how easy it is to use. Based on price I probably won't any time soon either. I like invision for both user interface and back end. phpbb isn't my favorite for user interface, but it can be made nicer if the owner spends the time.
