Alright, so due to family issues I was unable to buy my domain this weekend. I'm not setting a deadline for myself, but by next weekend would be nice. Here's my to do list. If anyone can think of anything else it would be much appreciated as its my first domain.
buy domain (.com/.net/.org)
purchase hosting for first month to test company
code simple under construction page with custom logo
link to blog already established elsewhere
Code contact form
work on coding rest of site within one to two weeks
create google sitemap
submit to directories/google, a couple weekly minimum
cross fingers and hope PR goes better then blog and the orders start rolling in

Overall it looks like a good plan. You might consider adding google adds to your site, both to the finished site and the under construction page. Also, you may want to lengthen your site coding to more than a couple of weeks, so you won't be so rushed to go live.

Don't let registering the domain hold you up. Many hosts will give you a sub-domain of theirs for evaluation purposes, if you're under a money back guarantee.

I'm not entirely sure that for a shop, or soon to be shop, putting Google ads would be a good idea.

Have a friend test all of your links, especially your order links. The last thing you want is to go live, the orders begin coming in...and something is broken. It also might be a good idea to test your site in different browsers to ensure the best experience for all visitors.

Good point. I don't know what I was thinking. Basically, Google strips information from your site to determine what type of products will be advertised, so you'd be competing against yourself.

Maybe it's just me, but I hate under construction pages. I usually get my coding done first on a test site (another server, or hidden on a subdomain of the server it will be on) then go live when it is ready after testing. But I suppose it won't hurt, and if anyone actually stumbles across it they can find your blog.

What kind of website are you creating?

Yeah, no Google for the main site, lol. I have Google on the blog that will be linked into the main site already, so it will be just fine there (and its pretty small there).

I already have a couple complete templates of my own design I am debating between so the couple weeks to go live is only to tailor the design and gut it for my own purposes. Not from scratch completely. I hate construction pages as well, so mine will have a link to the blogs and most likely the information pages, just not the ability to actually buy anything.

My site is mainly to have a e-commerce section to sell things I have mentioned in my blog repeatedly that I make myself. many people have expressed their interest in purchasing similar things but they aren't always sold by home crafters near them. It will link to the blog which already has a PR2.
