I was just wondering, what would be the appropriate price for some standard HTML/CSS template? I saw somewhere 15$ templates that were excellent, but in your opinion what should be the price?

$15 sounds about right, but that's obviously not unique.

I never tried to go that road, create templates and sell them that cheap. Did any of you sold sites that cheap? How many copies did you sell?

I don't do templates. And all my work is custom 100% unique. 1 copy total

Yes, I do like that also, but I know many people who sell their work again and hide that fact from the client. Very sneaky...

It happens all the time. This is one reason why I only do custom work. All my clients know it's unique just to them because they instruct me throughout the entire process. It costs more, but they get exactly what they want. With templates and "non-unique" designs it's not common to absolutely love every aspect.

While it's great to be able to provision custom designs, not every start up can afford to go that route. Modifying templates is an inexpensive viable option for many new businesses. Most brick and mortar entrepreneurial ventures don't jump directly into ecommerce, rather static information sites just to have an online presence and an email address that relates to their domain.
