I've always used vBulletin or some other forum software for creating a forum but now I have a WordPress site that has unique design and I don't want to break the consistency of the site. Therefore I need some forum functionality within WordPress. Have you tried any?

Try bbPress.
It integrates with Wordpress user database, so your users will have one login both for forum and WP comments.

Thanks much! I just read about it and it looks great! I hope it has a lot of options like vBulletin has.

BBpress looks really nice. I see that they keep it updated and offer some support as well. I would say that it is worth giving it a try. Anyone have some other suggestions or options?

Has anyone tried it so far? I'm really interested in its options. How far is this forum solution from regular forum software dogs like vBulletin and similar?

I've used bbPress and it's a good start, but it's not all that hard to run a vBulletin install with the same theme as your WP blog. vBulletin is a much better option, IMO

I agree with Anna that vBulletin is a much better option. I joined and is participating in several forums with various platform including vBulletin, SMF, phpBB and the platfrom for Wordpress. I love all the platforms except the last one.
