Just wondering what people's thoughts are on the best free forum software? I've had a bit of experience with phpBB and myBB before, but apparently there are loads of other options out there.

Quite a decisive win for MyBB there!

@HostXNow - I haven't encountered PunBB before, is it broadly similar to all the other forum scripts out there?

I tried myBB once but never really got into it, I've always been a fan of phpBB because of its developer community and the wide variety of plugins/extensions available.

I go for phpBB as it's easy to customize and it has good support as well.

I use SMF to run my small forum (not that I have a big forum), and it is doing great so far. I have ever tried phpBb, but I didn't like it.

myBB or SMF. I like mobile version of SMF. Also, punBB is a light weight forums script.

My personal favorite is phpBB. As I stated in other threads, there is so much help out there if you run into any issues, not to mention it can be customized in so many ways. It's also VERY well documented and the developers are super quick to issue any updates or patches to bugs or security issues.

Good luck in your search!

My personal favourite for free forum software is MyBB. I like phpBB too but I find it quite ugly sometimes.
