Which font do you prefer when creating a website? If you have opinions on this, I would like to hear them...

We use Arial a lot, for it's readability. However, Verdana and Tahoma has the ability of being extremely small, yet still readable, thus making it a more recent choice of our's.

Only if we really need to, we use specialized symbol or special stylized fonts from our font library.

I am of course referring to actual font text, not text in images.

When it comes to images.....anything goes as far as font is concerned.

I prefer Arial or Helvetica. The letters in Tahoma and Verdana are too rounded, for my personal aesthetic; and Arial / Helvetica presents a slightly more professional look.

Caveats: as long as the font size isn't microscopic - in which case, please provide alternate stylesheets. Microscopic text in any font should be kept to a minimum, and especially shouldn't be used by default on any pricing lists or client contracts online.

Other caveat: this is my opinion. Others' opinions will vary.

I prefer Arial or Verdana also for readability, but also because I prefer to stay away from fonts such as Times New Roman which are too common and "boring" or Comic Sans which seems unprofessional in most cases. I like a font that will flow with the rest of the design. If you have a very rounded site (i.e. your images don't have such sharp edges) Times New Roman doesn't seem to fit as it is a bit too blockish....if that makes sense at all.

Verdana is my choice. It's sort of a standard font on the web anyway. Arial and Helvetica are good replacements.

TNR just doesn't render nicely on the web. The few sites that have wanted a more angular / "conservative" (ie, old money - best descriptive phrase I could find) look, I've used Garamond font. It's a serif font, but the individual characters are a bit more finely rendered / finely structured than the TNR characters.

Arial great for news sites.
Verdana is my business font of choice.

I prefer Verdana but I often use Tahoma.

I tend to use Arial. As some of you may know from another thread ... I experience somewhat mild vision problems. I have tried many of the fonts discussed here ... but I find Arial the most easily readable when my vision acts up ... and many others with the same type of vision problems find Arial to be the most easily readable as well.

However ... if I need to use Italics (usually at the bottom of pages for Copyright info etc) I usually use Times New Roman

It is important to know that serif fonts are not so functional and readable on the screen like they are on the paper. Second thing is that reading from screen is around 25% slower than from the paper.

So the choice for webdesign goes to any sanserif fonts

Arial and Verdana are my primary fonts. But I also like Helvetica when I need a more conservative or professional look.

Like someone else said, I like verdana for small text. For some reason, I just don't like Times New Roman.

I use Arial and Verdana. I always use sans-serif fonts for readablility, and I stick to the old favorites. I think this is just a throwback to the days when browsers only had about five fonts available to them.

Almost all of my web design clients have requested Times New Roman for their font, and I can understand why. I find it the easiest to read and looks nice just about anywhere.
