Can anyone recommend a good CMS system that allows for a nice design. Most I've found are text based and aren't creative.

Well, it depends what exactly you mean by "nice design" since one man's trash is another's treasure. I mean look at Ebay
Which ones have you been looking at and what are your thoughts on each?

By "nice design" I mean something generally not just text only. Robust custom ability would be cool.
Any ideas?

People seem to like PHP Nuke, Post Nuke, and Mambo CMS. They are template/css driven for graphical application.

My vote goes to Mambo. I just think it's the better CMS.

Easier to administrate. Faster, less resource intensive. No gaping security flaws.
The only thing Nuke has on it is more mods and templates.

If you are wanting to create the nice design yourself, I would suggest getting Photoshop and Dreamweaver. Then learn how to FTP (assuming you don't already).
