Disney World’s special exhibit: data center from IBM

A new energy-efficient data center from IBM is on display at Walt Disney World’s Epcot theme park. Part of the company’s SmarterPlanet exhibit, this campaign involving Salable Modular DC is meant to provider a greater understanding of how technology affect people’s lives.

GoDaddy returns to Super Bowl with customary edgy ads

It is almost customary that every year we see domain registrar GoDaddy.com take part in the Super Bowl commercial run. This year is no exception. There will be at least two ads featuring Danica Patrick, company’s long time spokesperson. The ads are already available on company website.

Oracle finalizes Sun Microsystems purchase

Oracle has completed the $7.4 billion acquisition of Sun Microsystems. As a result of this deal, close to 2,000 people will be laid off (out of approximately 28,000 working around the world). Most experts believe the deal will provide Oracle with an edge in the information systems market.

D-Link names new company president

D-Link has announced that Nick Tidd, former vice president of sales for D-Link Pan America and VP of marketing for D-Link North America, has become the company’s new president. Nick Tidd has been recently named a “Top 25 Channel Maverick” by ChannelWeb.

Tieto’s $25M Finland data center

Tieto is building a new data center in Espoo, Finland. If the demand for space remains strong, the projected 3,280 square feet facility at the start will be expanded with an additional 1,140 square feet at a later time. Tieto’s investment into this project is approximately $25.5 million.

Cox Communications is building second DC in Phoenix

Cox Communications has announced a plan to build a new data center in Phoenix (company’s second DC in the area). With a construction cost of over $70 million, the facility is planned to start operating not before 2011.

HostICan moves into new data center

HostICan has moved into a new facility outside Richmond Virginia. The new facility has power and connectivity that would meet customers’ collocation needs. The company, however, will continue to operate its data center in Washington, DC.

Storms causes data center downtime

Severe weather in Northern California is taking its tall on data center performance. NaviSite‘s San Jose facility experienced multiple downtime starting around fifteen minutes before 5 o’clock Pacific Standard Time. An estimated total of 500 customers were affected by 17 outages. Four people arrested in web hosting equipment fraud

4 people have been arrested due to a web hosting fraud, in which the conspirators gained computer racks and generators by making false representations. A total of 19 defendants were charged for conspiracy mail and wire fraud which lasted for more than 6 years.
