It is like in "Matrix" there are people don't want to be unplugged. I remember when I was 16 years old was no computer and all the summer holiday we were outside playing soccer, phishing (not banking ) and everybody was relax, the world was different, believe me everybody were happy. Nice time......

same here, i remember xmas day and all the kids on their new bikes, now even during school hols. its like a ghost town, all kids indoor on the latest Xbox or whatever is in fashion now. And when you do see the odd kid out and about their fingers are permanently fixed to smartphone keypads.

Where has the art of conversation gone?

No computer means NOTHING will work - it's not a plausable scenario.

This means, no cars (most of them have computer chips), no airplanes, no banks, tv, radio, emergency response units, telephone, hot meals in a kitchen, hospitals, emergency rooms, pace makers, hearing aides, etc etc.

While it's a nice THOUGHT - it's not a realistic thought. I'd much prefer people use their own free-will and their own brain and learn to take a break and enjoy nature (which usually means having to look things up on your GPS phone, getting in a car and taking a trip).

I used to spend several hours a day with my horses - a nice break from computers.

true its not realistic, but i think some sort of computer restrictions would be great for teenagers as these days their fingers always seem glued to cell phone keypads as they constantly text each other, even if they are feet away from who they are texting, or they are posting utter rubbish on facebook or twitter.

It reminds me of my favorite episode of Seaquest in which they traveled to the future to find only 2 humans remain. Humanity lost the ability to interact physically which reduced the population down to almost nothing.

being in the UK, never really seen Seaquest, although they did start to show a series of Seaquest a few years back, but after 3 episodes it never returned.

I think is gone, imagine this world without Facebook, Twitter, without movies, etc. and how much time we will have for us, to read books, to talk etc.. Some times I am just thinking to buy some land and work the land, living like 60 years before...

Regards

to me the art of conversation to pick up the telephone and talk to someone or meet up with them and talk.

now we all seem to hide behind emails, texts, facebook, twitter etc.

even writing a letter, going to post office and sticking a stamp on the letter and posting has gone, now its just we will email or text them.

That's because the price of postage has increased to rediculous amounts, the postal service will usually lose the piece of mail, and when you finally DO receive the mail, there's a 50/50 chance that it's actually relevant 1 or 2 weeks later.

Email is a prefered method for faster communication. I rarely use text on a phone, unless it's a "be there in 5 minutes" type note. I never ask someone to go to dinner, inform others that I'm having a baby, or that I got married via text - but I HAVE received those notices (even from my sister).

There's a lot to be said for picking up the phone and talking, and I completely agree that it has taken over some people's lives - but at the same time, if they weren't doing that, I wouldn't be in business

That's the "beauty" of evolution

I do enjoy some personal face to face discussions also, I'm only playing devils advocate here.

Well this is still on topic.
You know those ads that say people want to talk to a live person when they call a company.
Well for me I would prefer not to talk to a live person and just talk to a machine. Specially when I just need to activate a card or something simple. Usually when I talk to a live person they want to sell me crap and I am not calling them to buy their stuff. So that is the reason I don't want a live person. This mainly applies to banks or credit cards. Unless I am having a real problem I don't want to talk to a live person.

However none companies I do prefer to talk to a live person. I have actually gotten a text and called them as a reply. Although I mainly do that because texting cost me 25 cents per text.

I prefer to do this when i want to cancel a service. As when you need to cancel a services you are told you need to call this number and speak to this dept, but in reality this dept is an esculated sales team whose primary goal is to keep you as a customer, so they will offer you many discounts to try and keep you. its the same with telephones/broadband, you have to call to get MAC/PAC number as they say this is the only way you can get this number. This info is wrong as you can write and request this number, just they want you to call so they can try and keep you.
