Help Please! Time For Blog CPR

Hey Everyone,

Ok, I have seriously neglected http://www.webhosting-business.com for too long, it has potential and PR so I figured now is the time to start some CPR on it in an effort to build it into the ultimate blog that it sits in the corner crying to become.

Here's what I am asking for. Since it's targeted towards the business of web hosting, what would you like to see? What would drive your mind wild? So far, have thought of the Windows VS Linux Comparision for web hosting providers that was inspired from a recent thread here on HD. Any input is greatly appreciated!

I would like to see a unique voice. Something we are determined to create for our own blog here at HostingDiscussion.com.

Standard articles about how to choose a hosting company or what type of hosting is out there has been done 1000s of times and in my mind are boring. Publishing the Press Releases is another piece of information I will probably not visit the site for. Not to mention you won't be able to compete with established sources. Set a tone and you'll definitely get more eyes following your angle of news.

Hope this help!

Thanks for the advice Artashes. I agree that choosing the right host, etc. is played out way too much these days, it's been recreated for over ten years, hence I can't really say how much longer after ten years because I only got into the industry about ten years ago. Uniqueness is a virtue for any content I agree.

Just wondering why this got moved to this forum as I'm not asking for any type of services, just opinions.

Hi James,

Just wondering why this got moved to this forum as I'm not asking for any type of services, just opinions.

Fair question. It was moved here for two reasons:
1. Linking to your own website.
2. The request for feedback which is designed to improve product/service. See below.

Since it's targeted towards the business of web hosting, what would you like to see?

Being in this forum doesn't mean less exposure in any way. It also won't take desire away from people who would like to help by providing suggestions.

Ok, I was just wondering as I felt this was a place to sell/buy instead of requests for opinion. Which my blog really doesn't do any selling/buying (except for advertising). Thanks for the clarifications Artashes.

I would like to see hirer level thinking in regards to the businesses itself. You have a web hosting company, blog about it. Blog about what it takes to run and how to run one.

I'm tnot talking like the articles of general information. More like a Kitchen Nightmare's by chef ramsey.

I like your thinking Zachary. That's an excellent idea, thanks for sharing it! I think this will be pushing me into a new direction for the blog.

I think a unique style is also something that will aid to build any blog especially if you review or comment on news or the industry an example that I tend to use is a reviewer called Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw he however reviews games in a series called zero punctuation as well as pc gamer and other publications.

The main reason for the mention is that the style by which he reviews is very blunt with a large number of mixed messages thus making the reviews despite the form they take very unique and inciting people to return.

I think it ties in directly to Artashes comment about the identity, being unique will ensure more often than not a good following.

Honestly, I am perceived as a blunt person saying things you wouldn't catch your normal businessman saying because he thinks it will hurt his rep. Now, I think I can use that style in a way that will still be professional yet provoke people to salivate for more. It's just a matter of fine tuning the bluntness persay.

This has urged me to become more emotional in some of the writing that I do. We'll see how it turns out. :)

It was late and I couldn't spell. That is a good time. I hope it does well for you James. I'll only require a 20% royalty. You can make them payble to Synersis Media, Inc. 5228 Lovers Ln Ste 107 Portage, MI 49002. haha j/k

Check is on the way. ;)

I think the idea will do well and help out with the uniqueness that I was looking for. It's time that the web hosting business is respected for what it is instead of being looked at as an easy business to run. It takes a special person to even run a web hosting business due to its demanding requirements.

James,

Great! I'll look forward to seeing it in my mailbox. You are right it takes a very "special" person to run a web hosting business. There is plenty of "special" to go around. lol

There is indeed Zachary. Some may just think we are insane for the unusual sleeping patterns and lifestyles that we lead pursuing the dream of running our own business virtually. How many times have you heard that the Internet isn't a real job?

James, I hear that everyday. Mind you, I have been doing this for seven years now and make $50k a year. It still isn't a real job. That is ok though, I have my nice little suburban office with 20 Mbps high speed Internet. I work when the customers need me and I laugh and smile at people who believe its not a real job.

There is a point in time, when you just do not care anymore and sky screw it. It isn't worth arguing with people on it. Just keep smiling because the simple thing is, you control your schedule and income potential. They are sat in their "real" jobs being bossed around all day. Oh Well :)

I like the idea of a blog that takes you inside your own decision-making mind when you are running a hosting business. Not your traditional: "how to market a hosting company" headline, but rather "how I market my hosting company" one. I will DEFINITELY follow your story.

I planned on doing that taking them through the walk of rebranding a web hosting company and turning it into a prosperous venture. I don't think it will hurt my business by any means, so why not. I changed the slogan to Welcome To The Industry That Never Sleeps. I knew there was a reason I kept having it on my mind. :)

Personalizing your blog will help tremendously. In sales, prospects buy from reps they know, like and trust. Add your picture. Make analogies to tie-in to real life scenarios.

This will be personal to an extent. It will be a walk through the life of someone who has a challenging job to do and people will see a web hosting business be built in real time. As far as analogies to tie-in to real life scenarios, I'm not quite sure what you mean as the blog will be a look at a real life.
