I would prefer to have both firewall that is both have equal importance, software firewall as well as hardware firewall.

On Linux server, Config Server Security that is CSF is widely used. It is best among all.

Now a days, firewall has the both configuration, hardware as well as software firewall. Hardware firewall was previously used with the systems having broadband devices connected to it. Those used to filter the packets.

Software firewall is now used worldwide. It has the number of customization option. You can set number of rules in the software firewall.

Hii,

There is two security level at physical level and another for virtually level.
At physical level(Network level), you can setting all the security for DDS protection as well you can install and setup firewall/csf at virtually level.

Some pretty common misconceptions here:

#1: The size of your port doesn't matter. What matters is your hardware. If your hardware can't handle the attack, then you're likely going to be in big trouble when that real attack comes in. The size of the port is rather minimal when hardware comes into consideration.
#2: CSF is not a firewall. It is a frontend to IPtables
#3: Hardware firewalls will always be important , way more so than software (IE: CSF). These are somewhat more complicated, however, which is why companies charge big $$$ for software firewall frontends.

Both firewalls is important as both has their own role.

The differences between a software and hardware firewall are vast, and the best protection for your computer and network is to use both, as each offers different but much-needed security features and benefits.

Almost 90% of the hosting companies only use a software firewall.
As already mention cPanel Web hosting companies usually using CSF to configure the iptables.
For application security, there are multiple plugins.

Most of the dedicated hosting providers offer server level firewall protection.

Both are on different levels.

Software security

Software security is responsible for protecting applications and software from external threats such as malicious attacks, viruses, etc. The most used mechanism within this type of security are the antivirus programs, these programs have a virus file that is automatically updated and is able to find new viruses. The virus search is carried out periodically on the computer, also the user can do it manually when he wants. Another software that is also used are firewalls, antispam filters, software to filter content and against unwanted advertising, etc.

Hardware security

Hardware security refers to the protection of computers or devices against intrusions or threats. Not only must we protect the software, but also the hardware we are using in our daily activities is important and requires protection. The most used method is the management of firewalls or hardware firewalls and proxy servers. There is another method that uses hardware security modules (HSM) that use cryptographic keys for encryption, decryption, and authentication in systems. Like the software, it is advisable to think about hardware security from the first moment of its manufacture.

You can decide base on your neeeds.

Hardware firewall is definitely better than software firewall, software firewall like csf or apf or generally free, whereas hardware firewall is quite costly.

Yes, many of the hosting companies do provide firewall security. Either Hardware or software both are essential for optimal protection.
Software firewalls are installed on computers like any other which are customizable.
Whereas, Hardware firewalls are little more effective due to very less configuration to protect local computers.
