Be careful .... cheap price sometimes means cheap servers.

Sometimes the less you pay for hosting or reseller hosting means you get put on a overloaded, bogged down server...

Not good for your customers

what i would suggest is , dont look at the price , if you are knowledgeable go through the plans and services of the company and then take a look of the cost. You will have to compromise with either Cost OR Quality. The choice is yours.

Yup i agree with you..Quality is the most important on Services Business..

Hi!
So true. Hence..it is critical to weed out the ones..no matter what they charge a month..that be trusted with your business and customers.

It's not easy..it involves creating several scenirios taken right from your real-world experience playbook. it's hard at all when you think about it...just put yourself in your customer's shoes. Test them. Bring in a third party monitoring service. Who is playing pretend..ala..selling reseller accounts on a VPS?

It's easy to tell these days..in fact..Cpanel clearly tells you when your "host" is on a vps. I refuse to host off a vps.

Period. End of discussion. I'm not going to waste time and argue it.

Now...I can tell you..a very critical test for many hosts is something unbelievably easy. Ask them to setup a SSL for you. Now..you would think in this day and time..most hosts can do this..but you'd be wrong. Many can't...even the ones that give a SSl cert with the reseller account.

I know that's hard to believe..but's it's a fact. You would think it is a black art..but it's not.

I also warn you of another troublesome host. This is the "I'll do anything you ask" host. The problem with this host is they don't realize many of the other hosts don't supply this...say...a certain feature...because it overloads the server or is difficult to manage. Hence..most hosts that know better..simply say no.

Tomcat is one clear example. True...you find not find Hostgator offering this..but there is a reason behind that. It is a horrible CPU and memory hog. I have been told by many it is manageable. Perhaps it is..still...I see these hosts having a good amount of downtime and trouble.

I would avoid these until they learn the hard lessons many of us already have learned..and certainly not by doing all of this first hand. No..I can learn by watching others make these predictable and avoidable mistakes.

One thing that is critical but is often not even mentioned in threads like this...is server location. It is a critical thing to learn. Where is the server? Major NOC? Also...10Mbit connection? Or 100? it matters..not only to dometic customers..but normally even more so by international customers.

I would pay extra for a host that has servers in Softlayer datacenters..and even more for one located in Rackspace.

Why? Reputation is one..but you will find hosts that break down and spend more for their servers...are better hosts all around. I would be concerned with a host that..say..trusts WHMCS for everything.

I don't.

Some do..but end up paying a price in signups that don't happen. Don't get me wrong..it is a wonderful billing system. However..in my experience..a wonderful full-featured ticket system it is not. I have several different programs..and have no real solid opinion other than I really like kayako..and as soon as I can afford it..I will have it.

I guess my question would be, and I have asked my clients. "Would you purchase hosting from a 14 year old kid, if he offered it for 99 cents a month?"

I personally wouldnt, just because the kid is 14! he really hs no business skills, but thinks he will get clients, what do you guys think?

Many people think going for cheap is always the best option.

That is hardly not the case. Price and quality are inversely proportional unless stated otherwise.

Instead of going for cheap hosting, first make sure about relaibility, support and SLA.

A good reseller company to go with is Site5, their reseller plans start out at $19.95 a month.

Brybert, why would you avoid VPS hosting? Sorry, but I am a bit new to this and am trying to suck up all the information as it were because I plan on moving up to a reseller account soon and I want to make sure I don't do something silly.

I'd suggest HostforWeb
They have the best support you can find and also have a very active user forum with lots of resellers & VPS participants so you could get answers from fellow customers or their support.
Prices are "reasonable" not too cheap, not too high... but the main thing is their lever & speed of support especially for newbies.
I get a VPS there now and then if I'm experimenting with something personal and they are great at support and the people on the forums are friendly & helpful.

Hello
Well, I think in 2009, Social Media cannot be ignored. In 2008, we’ve seen Social Media & Marketing making HUGE strides. SM is what I would call good, low-cost weapons to add to your marketing and communication arsenal. You WILL spend your valuable time connecting and communicating, but the ROI of Social Media can be incredible.

Social Media will become even MORE critical for the smaller organizations looking to compete with the big boys. Creating personal connections that ADD VALUE to your audience is Key.

A lot of marketers will jump into SM with the same approach as traditional media and marketing – They Will Fail. Social Media is about being SOCIAL and interacting/facilitating meaningful engagements.

Now, traditional methods of marketing and communications aren’t [entirely] dead. Remember the Marketing Mix? Make sure each piece of your marketing pie compliment and build on one another.

Here are thoughts on a few “new” tools:

Twitter – Used to provide a glimpse into the everyday characters, musings, events, etc. of a company/brand/individual. Perfect for keeping the conversation Two-Way.

If you choose web hosting at a cheap price, you must accept all the risks and limitations .. Sometimes making a website and a good dinamais require significant costs because it was backed by additional features that you do not get if you choose web hosting services with a cheap price.

Thanks and hope it can help you to make desicion...
