In my opinion Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 is best HTML editor.
I use phpDesigner 7 for programming and I suggest it to everybody.

I like and use dreamweaver for heaps of it little quirky things that sometimes work Like check in check out and when you save it auto saves it to your servers.

Saves a lot of time and colors the code for you as well.

PSP Pad is a good Notepad Plus alternative but Coffee Cup HTML Editor seems to be great.

I've only had experience with two editors; Dreamweaver and Notepad.

Notepad is great for small quick jobs while Dreamweaver is the best in the market if you ask me for any task.

I've only used Alleycode and have not had a problem. It's worth a look and it's free. What I do is fairly basic and it works great.
