Domain Resolution

Does anyone know of an automated solution - aside from whmap (which didn't work out too well in my opinion) to check for domain name resolution and notify the customer?

Saw you mentioning you have whois.cart, I think that comes with some type of domain resolution.
I know you can do a whois and there is something about this you can setup in the admin panel, but I am not too sure where.
