Secure Data Center Required for Global HIV/AIDS Research

02.02.2011– Carpathia Hosting, the leading provider of enterprise managed hosting services for government agencies and enterprises, announced today that Duke University has chosen Carpathia for a Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) compliant hosting solution in support of the Duke Human Vaccine Institute (DHVI).

DHVI was required to attain a FISMA Certification & Accreditation (C&A) compliancy to apply for a competitive research award from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). Carpathia was selected by DHVI to provide the compliant hosting solution.

In late 2010, NIH and NIAID awarded DHVI up to $52.8 million over the next seven years to support the development, implementation and oversight of external quality assurance programs that monitor laboratories involved in HIV/AIDS research and vaccine trials around the world.

Founded in 1990, DHVI has established national and international leadership in the fight against major infectious diseases. Today, DHVI plays an integral leadership role in the Global HIV/AIDS Vaccine Enterprise and is a pioneer in emerging infections and biodefense research. By focusing on the scientific “bottlenecks” for the development of HIV, TB, and other vaccines, DHVI investigators continue to make major new contributions to global health challenges on behalf of society.

Carpathia’s commitment to secure, compliant hosting environments is most visible at its flagship datacenter location, the Vault. Executing on a defense-in-depth strategy, Carpathia leverages its compliant operational activities on a physical, systems and infrastructure level for all Vault-hosted customers, including Duke.
