How do you deal with missed ones

I recently found a online girl-friend and we been talking for a bit now and she seemed to have a taken a trip some where how ever though I wanted to know (especially from the guys or gals) how do go around when your gf or bf are not around and you miss them.

So far all I can do is recall the good times that we had.

Write them a letter, to give them when they get back.

When I was 17 yrs old and went on vacation for a week, only a few days after I met my gf (11 years later...now my wife). Everyday of my vacation to Ohio, Canada, and Virginia Beach VA, I wrote her a page or two, sometimes more.

By the end of the vacation, I had written a 17 page letter, that she very much appreciated when she got to read it.

It helped keep my mind off of being away from her, because I felt as though I was still communicating with her, and gave her something nice to read, when I got back.
