MatchMaker.com wouldn't sell for that much. I rather purchase a hosting company for $80,000. Did any big company like ebay or yahoo even pay that much for a domain name?

For that you are asking the wrong person Brandon.
I am certainly not an expert on domain names but there are a few things I do know.

One is that a play on a domain name is rarely worth a whole lot, for instance changing matchmaker.com to mymatchmaker.com
Another is that when Lycos bought matchmaker.com back in (Oct.?) of 1999, they were already getting something like 40,000 new sign ups per week. That is a lot of scratch.

The value of matchmaker.com today would be in the millions.
