Time for a New Car - Suggestions?

Right before people make suggestions, I live in Britain where Pickup Trucks and Enormous SUV's are not logical!

Any good suggestions? - Recently have had a Toyota Yaris but looking for something slightly "beef-fer" I'm thinking German!

Options So Far
BMW - 1 Series
VW Tiguan
Audi A3

I am totally biased towards BMW. My experience took me through all 3 generation of X5 SUV and currently BMW GT.
But I've also driven friend's Audi and Mercedes. Tech-wise, BMWs are more advanced.

You being in Europe, I would totally recommend a BMW: an X1 (an SUV based on 1 Series) or a 5-door 1 series. These are beautiful machines that are a joy to drive, and I've seen they are very popular in Italy - I've seen a few in every city I visited.

It really depends what you mean by beefier, I've had a Toyota Yaris and currently have the Aygo (long distance runs) an Audi and Landrover defender for everything else, as well as drive a wide range of high performance vehicles due to volunteer work.

If you wanted something 4x4 with some grunt, then I wouldn't advise what most of us country lot consider to be a "plastic pretender" by which it simply means anything with a 4x4 badge that hits a puddle or muddy field and needs help (most of the big suv's such as the Tiguan) . If that is the sort of beefier you're after, hands down I would suggest a Landrover Defender.

if instead your looking for a saloon coupe I'm fond of audi's (hence my a5) or jaguar's... as for bmw's they always seem to get unstuck and are devilishly bad in the snow or bad weather conditions (a lot of unfortunate experience with this) and ford seem to be moving in the right direction.

As for Honda (no doupt will get a mention) I'm not a fan especially after the design flaws with the civic resulting in a distinct lack of vision and thus making them highly accident prone.

So I would go for the Audi A3 :)

Hello Marks,

Are you working with a budget or can you spend as much as you like for your new automobile :). After viewing your links it looks like you're looking for something sleek but small in size.

Depending on your budget I think you should have a look at the Mercedes-Benz C230-C300 class. I think these are cute little cars that make a physical statement at the same time :). From what I have seen in person though they don't offer much space in the rear seats.

If you're working with a larger cash flow then I would recommend the Mercedes-Benz E350 should 2011 be a good year :)

I like the fact that you are leaning towards German but what about the Japanese? They've got a pretty good line up of cars this year.

If you want german definitely go BMW. Audi in my experience have a lot of problems. My buddy had both the S4 and the RS4, and both of them had tons of problems. He had to bring the RS4 in for maintenance the first week he had it.

BMW has the best power:handling ratio ever.
