Trackers and Servers

Hi,
I'd like to know what the difference between a tracker, like what you have torrents stored on, and a server is. Are they the same thing? How do trackers run on a server?

trackers typically don't host actuall torrent content but host a link (torrent links are typically very complex) for various known files. A user can than use a tracking site to locate torrent links for a file. Files are usally located on backdoor ftps etc.
